Black Sun existed in some form or another for centuries, possibly originating from remnants of the Exchange. It was infamous for its involvement in piracy and smuggling, although it was heavily involved in every known type of illegal activity. About four thousand years ago, it was known to have controlled a large district on Coruscant, where Black Sun set up its headquarters. After the establishment of the Galactic Empire, Black Sun was crippled and forced to leave Coruscant.

History

Around Year 0, Black Sun was headed by Gabriella Storm with a trading company as its front. From the start of the Galactic Civil War, Dark Princess Storm had a close working relationship with Zee Wolf, then the leader of the Rebel Alliance, Storm was also a close associate of the upper echelons of the Galactic Empire; when the Imperial Core was formed (which later became part of the Dark Empire), Storm reportedly faked her own death so she could join, leaving Black Sun without a named heir.[1][2]

Efforts to take over Black Sun led to one Dark Prince after another taking the "throne" and being overturned, until Qel Dar - who centralized the power within Black Sun - became the Dark Prince. It was during his reign that the Hapan Pride Campaign (also known as the "Black Sun Crisis") took place.

The planned Tri-Star Alliance (involving the Hapes Consortium, Falleen Federation, and New Anzat Order) was cancelled following the assassination of the Hapan King Andrew. The Consortium moved away from the planned interstellarisation and also dropped all plans of aiding the Rebel Alliance in their conflict with the Galactic Empire. Black Sun, on the other hand, became more closely tied with the Falleen Federation; the leaders of both organizations part of the same Falleen clan. Along with the former Hapan governor of Lorell, also from the Falleen clan, the three drafted plans to establish production facilities, service establishments and luxury housing along the north-eastern coast of the main continent. Their intent was to wrest control of the planet of Lorell from the Hapes Consortium.

After attempting a diplomatic solution to the issue, the Royal Hapan Navy were ordered to initiate a lockdown of the Lorell System and to blockade the planet. After evacuating innocent civilians from the warzones, the Navy proceeded with the operation to bombard the illegal construction sites from orbit.

Black Sun disappeared from public eye shortly after the end of Hapan military operations on Lorell. Humiliated, Qel Dar abdicated within six months and Plojo Rosom became the new Dark Prince.[2][3]

Dark Prince Rosom set out to reconstruct Black Sun, dividing the corporation up and appointing Lords, each with the responsibility of conquering space. He also entered into agreements with mercenary factions, one such being the Shadow Walkers. Before abdicating, Rosom nationalized the Shadow Walkers and chose Xya Howie (formerly Tee ubo Tarkona, fiancée to the Emperor Uebles who left him to marry petty warlord Irv Howie - who she divorced within a year) as his successor. Her reign lasted only eight months, although she is known for having created the Black Market and for having formed an alliance of conglomerates, including SoroSuub Corporation.

Her successor, Joseph Roscha, was so inept that after three months, Xya Howie was placed back on the throne. After an incident that presumably left Xya dead, the Regent Tara Tygler became a short-lived Dark Princess. Camaris sa Vinitta then took the throne and the organization sundered again, leaving Daa`iata Tnaysc to take over. Her reign also did not last long, and Adam A Flynn became the new leader of Black Sun.

Because of the turbulence, by this point Black Sun had been stripped of all but its Kiffex holdings, the flagship Darkstar-class battleship, and a fleet of Vipers. By the time SoroSuub merged with the Rebel Alliance to form the "New Republic", Black Sun was forgotten almost completely - or so it seemed.

The then-Chief of State of the "New Republic", Ingo R. Vailis, was heavily involved in Black Sun, and worked with Flynn to work up plans to sell Black Sun to Teniel Djo, a promising candidate as the new leader of organized crime in the galaxy. Details of the deal were leaked to the public, and Vailis was impeached. Vailis sent orders to Black Sun agents within the "New Republic" to kill several highly-placed leaders and to secure the transfer of large amounts of military technology and credits into Black Sun.

This jump-started the return of Black Sun, which set up its headquarters on Thyferra and began to reconstruct. In Year 9, Black Sun abandoned the façade of a legitimate trading company - mainly as it had already lost any credibility it may have had.
