Humble Beginnings

Orikan is the only surviving offspring of Catherine and Ben Orikan, small business owners on the planet Corellia. While owning a small business provided his parents the freedom of being their own boss, the business climate at the time infringed on their success, with them bouncing between lower-middle class and poverty throughout Orikan’s youth.

This trial by fire of living on a tight budget forced Orikan to not only help out in his parents shop, but also turned him to a life of petty crime. He quickly grew in the Corellian underworld, making a name for himself for small thefts and dubious, but ultimately placid, cons. Seeing a modicum of success, Orikan pounced and turned his solo operation into a small enterprise, bringing on several like-minded individuals to do the theft for him.

While he employed their assistance in some of the more complicated cons, manipulating unsuspecting individuals became a signficant love of Orikan’s; a love that he wasn’t willing to give up. He continued his avid pursuit of the next con, before being caught and summarily charged by Corellian security forces.

Seeing an end in sight, but also the opportunity for one last con, Orikan approached the local adjudicator and proposed the opportunity to give back by joining the Empire instead of jail time. The adjudicator agreed, and Orikan was off to the academy the next day.

Imperial Life

Academy Student

While his enrollment in the academy was designed as a con to get out of jail time, Orikan soon began to be swayed by the indoctrination of the academy, and grew to love the order and potential that came with being an Imperial. He increased his studies and set his sights on the Imperial Navy with dreams of one day commanding a star destroyer.

However, his poverty and lack of formal education presented a sizable roadblock for him. He wasn’t at all familiar with how the military worked, and that lack of understanding forced him to retake his military operations course several times.

He graduated from the academy without honours in year 11.

Imperial Navy

Where his shortcomings in the academy were pronounced, he quickly find his niche as a fighter pilot for the Navy. Alongside former classmate Eeshol Jaro, Orikan helped the 4th Imperial Fleet during a time of active war, acting as a scout for security enforcement operations leading to the arrest of countless terrorists.

He soon found himself moving up the ranks and position, coming to rest as the senior enlisted officer in the 5th Imperial Fleet and Activity Adjutant. There he helped mold newer Imperials and help them learn their way in the navy, as well as meet his future girlfriend Lyra Dufay.

Coalition for Progress

While working in the navy, Orikan heeded a call for assistance from the Imperial Academy. They were in desperate need of academy instructors and recruitment staff, and Orikan was more than happy to lend a hand, despite their issues in the past.

Orikan quickly fell in love with teaching and recruiting, finding enjoyment in helping people make the decision to serve the Empire, and then being able to lend a hand in training them to be model Imperials through quality, caring instruction. Orikan worked his way from Junior Training Officer to Senior Training Officer in Imperial Basic Training, and from recruiter to deputy director of the Imperial Centre for Recruitment before tendering his resignation to focus on his career in the Imperial Security Bureau.

Imperial Security Bureau

After turning his life around from one of poverty and crime to one of means and purpose, Orikan found himself drawn to the world of law enforcement. Due to his only apprehension as a youth being deferred for his successful academy graduation, Orikan was welcomed into the Imperial Security Bureau in year 12 by then-Director Mikel von Bianchi.

Orikan worked his way up the ISB ranks, holding positions in adjudication, operations, deputy director, as well as reforming the office of surveillance. He spearheaded the apprehension, conviction, and execution of some of the most notorious criminals in recent times, including Lucmark Warren, Phoebe Doxa, Arku Feetoc, and Jorel Talas.

After serving for the majority of his career, in year 16 Orikan stepped down from ISB, moving over to the Imperial Army as Army Executive Officer.

Imperial Army

If you’d asked Orikan between his birth and perhaps late year 15 whether he would ever join the Imperial Army, his answer wouldn’t have just been a resounding no, he’d have laughed in your face. He viewed the army as an inferior branch suffering disorganization, some corruption, and one that had never lived up to its potential.

All that changed after a talk with Lord Seele, a mentor of Orikan’s, former Executor, and Director of Imperial Intelligence. He learned that the army commanding officer wasn’t merely looking for a right hand in hiring her AXO, but an eventual replacement. While he’d grown to be friends with the apparent outgoing ACO, Orikan also saw that the move would not only bring him a change of scenery from the stressful job he had in ISB, but also the ability to make the changes he’d been gritting his teeth due to the need for in the army for years.

Once selected, Orikan wasted no time getting to work even before even leaving ISB. He was determined to breathe new life into the troubled branch and turn it into the strong military force he’d been wanting to see since he first joined. His choices were rarely supported, but by harnessing his former con-man skills he managed to provide weighted, convincing arguments for why his changes would be better for the army, even if they saw temporary hurdles in the beginning.

If asked how he likes his job in the army, Orikan can provide but one answer: “I love it.”

Order of the Sith

Growing up in the Imperial worlds, it’s difficult not to dream of one day becoming a powerful Sith Lord. They’re a small group, representing around one millionth of a percent of the population, but are well known enough that when one passes through town in full regalia, it’s the talk around every dinner table in every house for weeks.

Sadly, while the dreams may have visited him frequently at night, Orikan has come to terms with the fact that it was extremely unlikely he’d ever be found to be sensitive to the force himself. He didn’t, to his knowledge, have the benefit of a bloodline of force users, and the only times things unexpected happened around him, he was quickly able to find likely causes outside of a invisible force binding the universe together.

To his surprise, while meeting with a friend and Sith Lord Tyler Struan, Orikan was told he was indeed sensitive. Stumbling back in disbelief, Orikan quickly embraced his new powers and set himself to training hard in the ways, finding himself with a particular gift for lightning and choke.

While taking time to study the background of the order, Orikan was surprised to find a file on his father, Ben Orikan, or as he was secretly known to some but not even his family, Darth Ignatious. Despite exhaustive searches, Orikan could never find a reason why his father’s true identity had always been kept a secret, but the revelation certainly explained his current power.

Orikan dedicated himself to helping other worthy Sith, moving up the ranks to Sith Master and onto the Sith Council.

Operations

Planetary Audit

Soon after joining the ranks of the Imperial Navy, Orikan became involved in the Planetary Audit, an Empire-wide operation that involved collecting information on every city on every world in Imperial territory. It was a long, grueling process that took months, but was a great introduction into long duration piloting.

Sovereign Canopy

While working with ISB, Orikan was briefly involved in Operation Sovereign Canopy on the planet Derra IV. He briefly engaged in combat operations, but limited his interaction to information gathering and ISB activities.

Illabeth I

As a matter of inter-branch cooperation, Orikan assisted the Army, Navy, and RGov as ISB during the war on Illabeth for revolution to bring it under Imperial control. During the operation, Orikan participated in the execution of several low-level terrorist group members.

Operation Heartbreak

One of the most notable operations in Imperial History, Operation Heartbreak was the Imperial response to intelligence on enemy operation Operation Romance which sought to take over territory held by the Empire.

The operation saw Imperial operatives boarding enemy ships to make arrests of high ranking terrorists leaders from the New Republic and Holowan. The actions of those involved were notable enough to gain them three different awards: Operational Success Award, Battle Efficiency Medal, and Medal of Valor.

From Rags to Riches

While Orikan may have grown up in poverty, once he joined the Empire he became determined to turn that around. He bought his first ship within months, and currently has a net worth totaling into the billions, a small personal army, a fleet with fleet support staff, as well as a personal museum of rare and restricted items.

His flagship, the Ex Tenebris, is a flying fortress and acts as his personal command center. A decommissioned Imperial Navy flagship, the Ex Tenebris underwent an extensive overhaul resulting in the current ship having very few, if any, of the original parts.

The exterior had its armor completely replaced, while the interior was transformed into a luxurious personal transport more resembling a spacious mansion than a battleship. The exception is the bridge, which Orikan insisted maintain that hardened militaristic feel, and his force meditation chamber which is colored in dark woods and is sparsely decorated to avoid distraction.

The ship also contains many state-of-the-art security features including classified weapons, its own dedicated security force, specially designed electronic and conventional countermeasures, as well as millions in undisclosed electronic security enhancements on the interior.

Acting as Chief of Staff for the Ex Tenebris, as well as personal aide, is Cynthia Romero, a bodacious young Corellian who has been in the employ of Orikan since his days on the street of Corellia, and has been thought to serve Orikan’s more personal and private needs for company as needed.

Love Life

Orikan has had numerous sordid affairs, most notable of which was with former Imperial rising star Serena Moon. The romance began during a formal ball for Imperials and lasted a considerable length of time. Months after the ball, it was announced to the Corellian people that the two had become engaged. Shortly thereafter, Moon disappeared without trace.

In the realm of controversial romance, a young Orikan once dated a junior Naval officer by the name of Lyra Dufay. They got along swimmingly until he learned she was being unfaithful. As he investigated the situation he learned that the instance he learned about was one of many. Shortly after the discovery, Dufay mysteriously disappeared.

Orikan also briefly dated Rue Sylera, a naval pilot from his fleet in year 12. The two were sometimes seen having disagreements, including one large blow-up outside of an exclusive club in the heart of Coruscant. Shortly after the incident, Sylera disappeared, going AWOL from her naval unit and has not been seen since.

Family

Notable family members include the late Jace Orikan. Born in secret on Corellia, Jace grew up without the benefit of his parents, having been given up for adoption shortly after birth. Years later, Jace approached Orikan having researched his origins with claims of being Orikan’s brother. A DNA test showed the claim to be true.

After being embraced into House Orikan, Jace slowly began to become associated with terrorists. He got involved in deals with the Zann Consortium resulting in his dishonorable death.

Before dying he’d managed one offspring, Haiza Sarka-Orikan. As Orikan’s niece, Haiza was embraced into the Orikan family as well. She’s kept out of the limelight and, thus, little information is known about her.

Priefaus Ardytifaus

Having grown up on Corellia, the system was always held a special place in his heart. Throughout his tenure in ISB, he ensured he stayed in Corellia, setting it as his unofficial base of operations.

In mid year 17, Orikan began getting involved in the real estate market in the Corellian system planet of Tralus. Identifying a city in the eastern region, he acquired ownership of the land and began going to work developing it into a crown jewel, featuring numerous office buildings, luxurious hotels, an industrial center, the Orikan Family Wildlife Preserve, and the brand new House Orikan palace.

The point of pride in the city is his Orikan Family Wildlife Preserve, home of some exquisite animal specimens from all over the galaxy, including but not limited to beasts as large and vicious as the acklay, all the way down to the rather placid jawa and gungan. The Orikan Family Wildlife Preserve is geared towards the care for these sensitive creatures and provide them with enrichment opportunities that the public can observe. Popular among these opportunities is the wookiee fight, which takes place every day at noon galactic time.

The chiss, while perhaps not as enthralling with their violent play, are popular for their seeming similarity to humans. Visitors are given information about these creatures and how, while perhaps similar in appearance, they and others like them lack some of the important genetic traits that allow humans deductive reasoning and judgment skills, but that the creatures provide excellent miners and domestic servitude.
