Walter Watts was a prominent figure the Galactic Empire. Having served in the Imperial Navy, and an established member of the Order of the Sith, Walter Watt's career has spanned a many number of position and branches, including Imperial Army, Imperial Intelligence, COMPNOR and the Ministry of Industry. Prior to service in the Galactic Empire, he served the local Thyferran government and military during a civil war that claimed the life of his parents and only sibling. Walter's service to Thyferra is distinguished with a number of commendations, including Thyferra's Heart, awarded for his participation in a war-defining battle towards the end of Thyferra's recent civil war.

Character History

Youth

Walter was born to Lauren and William Watts in the human district of Xozhixi, Thyferr'a capitol and predominantly a Vratix populus. As a young child and and in to his early teen years, Walter was noted by his peers and teachers for being particularly attentive, intelligent and strong-willed. His early school years were marred by a number of teacher's reports of unusual occurrences around Walter. A recently recovered file located in Thyferra's public archive noted a conflict Walter had with another student that resulted the other child being hospitalized. Records do not indicate what happened to the child, and Walter was moved to another school as a result.

As he got older, reports of unusual incidents ceased and Walter academic results began to garner some attention. Like his parents, Walter was a notably gifted student. This gift continued in to higher forms of education where, by aged 22, he was considered a notable expert in multiple fields. Despite reports that he received a number of significant offers to start a career in a number of academic fields, Walter instead set aside his studies and joined Thyferran Military Services.

Thyferran Military Service

Service in the Military was unlike anything he had done before. Walter's status and reputation grew quickly in the Starfighter corps with as an unnaturally gifted pilot. After breaking a dozen simulation records during his time at the military academy, Walter was deployed to the field where he received commendations for a ruthless efficiency in dealing with a number of incidents. When the Galactic Civil War began, Seperatists blockaded Thyferra. During this time, Walter joined in many prominent officials in forming a secret resistance to the Separatist occupation that occurred during the Galactic Civil War.

Insurrection

In the years that followed the formation of the Galactic Empire, Walter solidified his standing within the leading party of the government, while simultaneously serving as a now high ranking officer with the Thyferran Military. As the Rebel Alliance began to grow on a Galactic scale, factions within the planet's leadership began to co-ordinate in support of the Rebel Alliance. Many of the major organizations backed the move, as the Imperial regime saw huge cuts to their profits.

In a midnight raid, hundreds of government officials, Walter included, were targeted in a series of terrorist attacks. Walter was confronted by two would-be assassins who failed in a surprise attack and ultimately died in an explosion of their own doing. Walter's parents were less fortunate. His mother and father were together in a transport vessel that was struck concussion launcher. Neither survived the crash landing. Walter's sister, Sierra, went missing for a short time after the attacks but reappeared in a minor governmental role.

Rebellion Occupation

After several days of attacks, the Rebel Alliance Occupation of Thyferra began in full force, with the support of the majority of leading industries. In the first years of the occupation Walter Watts is listed as MIA, presumed dead. In actual fact he was part of the surviving leaders, who reformed the Separatist Resistance as the Imperial Loyalist faction. It was a war of subterfuge, with key industries of the Bacta production and other leaders, particularly leaders of the Military, being recruited or coerced to support the loyalists. Walter returned to public view almost three years in to the occupation and returned to the Military in an unassuming role. His allegiance to Loyalist faction a secret, he began to slowly gain the trust of his Pro-Rebel superiors, eventually returning to a position of leadership in the Military.

Rumors of a Jedi on Thyferra swirled, prompting elements of the loyalists to panic. The Loyalists were almost undone in a swift series of arrests or in the case of some, their executions. Walter's affiliation to them remain hidden, and in fact he became aware of the impending arrests in time to warn a number of key members. There exists no records confirming the deployment of a Jedi on Thyferra, however the damage done to the Loyalists was significant. It seemed that the Rebels would hold the planet under their control for the foreseeable future. The loyalists hold on industry was destroyed, and the balance of power was restored to the Rebels within the Military.

The New Order

Walter investigated the rumors of the Jedi for months. His investigations resulted in locating a plainly dressed older man living on the outskirts of the Capital. Walter took no chances, assassinating the man with a single shot from his nightstinger. Walter found a lightsaber on the corpse, and retains it to this day. The Rebel Alliance responded to the death of this man with an increased presence and further arrests. The Rebel's recent focus on Thyferra was enough to be noticed by a new power in the Galaxy, the New Imperial Order.

After the recent death of the Loyalist leader during an attempted arrest, Walter assumed leadership of the Loyalist faction. After a brief contact with an agent of the NIO, the Loyalists began to receive significant but discreet support in the form of credits, equipment and even some personnel. Walter focused on infiltrating the Military Command, and NIO forces sought to control or sabotage the powerful corporations that held significant power in the current government.

When the time was right the Loyalist's struck. A series of covert executions overnight, and a violent takeover of the Military Command, upset the control of the Rebels, and the planet fell in to civil war. The loyalists, equipped by the NIO and led by Walter, won several key victories and secured control of the capital. However, a Rebel Alliance fleet had begun to form in the system for a full military occupation.

Walter led significant force to battle against the gathering Rebels. The odds were severely stacked against him, and they took heavy losses early, but the timely arrival of an NIO scouting force managed to turn the tide and force the retreat of the Rebels. The full force of an NIO fleet arrived shortly after, and aside from a few minor skirmishes, established a blockade on the planet and cutting the rebel corporations and mercenary forces from support and reinforcements.

Civil War continued for several more months. Key strategic locations, such as military strongholds, bacta refinement facilities, starports and large chunks of alazhi farms, began to fall to the Loyalists. A number of corporations swore allegience to the NIO and Loyalist government. As the end seemed near a Rebel Allaince fleet entered the system during a light rotation of NIO orbiting forces. The blockade was broken for a short time, allowing large numbers of rebels stranded on the planet to attempt a retreat. Walter led a local force in to battle for the last time for the Thyferran government. While a number of Rebels escaped, a large number did not, either perishing in the battle or being located on the surface.

Walter was struck during the high orbit battle, and plummeted hard towards the surface. He crash landed, and was located after a full two weeks of searching, close to death.

Inheritance

Walter's living district had been hit had by debris and stray fire in the final battle of the civil war. On returning to his family home, Walter discovered that his sister had been missing since the day of the final battle. After twelve months Sierra Watts was declared deceased, and what Walter inherited was vastly different to what his parents left when they passed. In addition to a number space-worthy vessels, the Watts estate had expanded significantly to include stakes in a number of significant corporations across the planet. Walter marveled at the success his sister had attained.

To get the estate in proper order, Walter took extended leave from the Military and focused on consolidating his estate. In the following months Walter determined there was enough capitol in a number of bacta refinement and alazhi processing companies that a super-corporation formation was conceivable. To focus more attentively on his business pursuits, Walter resigned from Military service and formed Atlas Industries, a conglomerate of companies that, over several years, expanded to include several critical industries on the planet.Atlas Industries established itself as the leading super-corporation on Thyferra when Walter brokered a long-term tender with the Galactic Empire.

Joining the Galactic Empire

As part of the negotiations to secure the tender for Atlas Industries, Walter agreed to join the Galactic Empire. In just a few weeks Walter liquidated his non-corporate assets, including his family home, and enacted a policy on the Atlas board to use his seat as a tie-breaker for any board-related decisions. To this date there have been no instances of the tie-breaker being required. As such the running of Atlas has been largely out of his hands.

As part of his arrangements with Atlas Industries, a new project began to establish a deep space production hub in the core.

Imperial Service

Ministry of Industry

After quickly completing Imperial Basic Training, Walter accepted his first posting in Kuat Systems Engineering, the Ministry of Industry branch. Life in the Ministry was particularly timultuous during Walter's first months, with several enemies of the Empire striking out at the Ministry's production effort and personnel. Despite the instability in leadership of KSE< Walter shone through as a ideal candidate to fill the void of leadership in the corporation, and in just a few months had assumed the role under supervision of a retired former CEO.

MIA

During a routine hyperspace journey, the Tabder-class Heavy Hauler Walter was commanding experienced a critical hull failure. An undetermined fault caused a significant explosion and hull tear in the center of the ship, causing it split almost perfectly in half. Recovery crews located the bow of the vessel some weeks later, with all occupants deceased and a number of crew, including Walter, missing along with the stern of the vessel. A grueling six months ensued, where by a number of he survivors on board the barely functioning stern half perished. Walter and three other survivors were ultimately rescued.

Saved!

Walter wasted no time returning to full duties once he had recovered. Walter wasn't long back when he and another survivor, [REDACTED], decided to marry. This union was a short affair, as Walter discovered the truth of her allegiance to the Death Watch. This discovery resolved the mystery of the Tabder, as in her final moments she admitted to planting a series of explosives to allow nearby Death Watchman to steal the valuable tabder load and abduct a number of missing Imperials. Further details of the incident are classified, however it is known that [REDACTED] and an unknown member of the Death Watch were found dead in unusual circumstances.

The Sith Order and Imperial Army

Walter was summoned to the office of Darth Taral, where his strong sensitivity to the force was revealed to him. To facilitate the new commitment to training in the ways of the Force and of the Dark Side, Walter submitted a transfer request to the Imperial Army.

As well as participating in a number of secret Sith training missions, Walter also thrived in his posting to the 6th Brigade under Nathaniel Durane. He quickly attained the posting of Executive Officer on the 6th Brigade, and again in short time was appointed as Commanding Officer of 3rd Brigade. Whilst employed with the Imperial Army, Walter received an office with Imperial Intelligence as Military Intelligence Officer.

Imperial Navy

After a successful period of service to the Imperial Army, a position in the Imperial Navy Command loomed large. After the appointment of the Navy Training Officer to honored posting of Navy Commanding Officer, the sought after vacancy was advertised Empire-wide. After a grueling selection process, Walter was honored with the appointment of being the new Navy Training Officer.
