When Stones received new orders again he expected to be returned to regular duty within the Imperial Navy. After all, flying a star fighter was the kind of thing he did, wanted to do, and should be doing. But to his own disappointment, his next assignment was the exact opposite of what he had hoped for. This time he was tasked with filling up his freighter with raw materials, before flying it to a far and distant system to deliver the materials to an ongoing construction project. Stones protested and objected against his new orders, having already realized that his assigned freighter had such a weak hyperdrive motivator that the travel through hyperspace would take nearly forever. While it was acknowledged that his vessel was not ideal for the job, Stones was told that no other, more capable, freighters were available for use and he had to do with what he had. Though annoyed by this, Stones set out to execute his orders, still under protest. After a comparatively short journey of just a few days to a nearby system he loaded up the needed materials, and then set course to his next destination. He was shocked when the ship's computer gave him nearly three weeks as his estimated travel time.  Greatly annoyed, and unhappy, Stones jumped his freighter to Hyperspace.

The following days slowly went by, extremely slowly. Stones was all alone on the freighter, on which there was nothing to do and nobody to talk to, just himself and infinite silence and boredom. He could only wonder why pilots from the Imperial Navy now had to do the work of civilians, instead of patrolling systems and fighting enemies in order to protect those civilians who would normally be doing this job. Stones could find some comfort in the thought that he was at the very least doing something constructive, even if it meant flying with an inadequate freighter that was four times slower and with a capacity of less then half of that of modern freighters. After the three weeks had passed the construction workers on-site were surprised to see another freighter had arrived. When Stones asked where to unload the materials, he was told that the project already had all the materials they needed, it seemed that he had come too late for his load to be of any use. After contacting his superiors, who apparently had almost forgotten about him, he was told to proceed to a different planet in another system. Stones had remained silent, and gave them no reply. Instead, he just closed the connection and got underway again. He grumbled after the navigation computer had plotted the course; this next trip was going to take him a full month. How would he ever survive such boredom and loneliness?

When Stones asked where to unload the materials, he was told that the project already had all the materials they needed, it seemed that he had come too late for his load to be of any use, so in the end he actually had not been doing anything constructive and instead wasted his time all together. After contacting his superiors who seemed to almost have forgotten about him, he was told to proceed to a different planet in another system, and also informed that he was promoted to Flight Sergeant. Stones remained silent, and gave his superiors only a simply nod before he closed the connection and got underway again. He grumbled after the navigation computer had plotted the course; this next trip was going to take him a full month, more then a week longer then his previous journey had took him.

After a long and boring month had passed, Stones arrived at his destination and transferred his load of materials onto another freighter. As could have been expected, his new orders were for him to proceed to another system. This time however, it was to replace the rusting piece of antiquity he was flying with a much more modern and superior BFF-1 Bulk Freighter. But there was a catch; to get to that ship he would be forced to make yet another long hyperspace trip, this time eighteen entire days. After a little over two weeks of traveling, two days before he would arrive, Stones was contacted by his Commanding Officer. This time he was told that he had been promoted to Staff Flight Sergeant. After politely thanking his Commander, Stones closed the link. He wasn't really happy with the promotion though. The better of the past three months he had been doing nothing but waiting inside his ship while it traveled through hyperspace. He felt that he had not done anything that even remotely justified him getting not one, but two promotions over that period of time. The sole reason he could actually see for those two promotions would be that they were given out of pity for having spent so much time in what could just as well be described as an isolation cell, or perhaps to keep him from retiring due to the boring life he had in the Imperial Navy. Of course, Stones would never say to others that he was unhappy at having received these two promotions, since even though he felt that he had not deserved them having received them did mean increased status, privilege, responsibility, and wage for him. Losing that over pointing out that these promotions were not justified would be idiotic, least to say. As such, Stones remained silent about it and continued his journey. Two days later he arrived and just a few hours after swiftly transferred to his new ship, abandoning his old ship in a depot just as someone else had done so long before him.

(follow up trip full month)

After the full month had passed, the comparatively small load of materials was delivered by him, and immediately afterwards he was ordered to head to another system, where he was to replace his Class VI Bulk Freighter with a BFF-1 Bulk Freighter, which was far superior compared to what he was flying now. But there was a catch; to get to that ship he would be forced to make another long hyperspace trip of eighteen whole days. After Stones had arrived at the BFF-1, he was also finally able to replace his Crewman's rank plaque with that of a Staff Flight Sergeant. During the entire period in which he had flown the Class VI, he was promoted for a grand total of three times. First to Flight Corporal, shortly after the start of his assignment. Then, just before the trip that took a full month he was promoted to Flight Sergeant. And finally, with just two days of hyper travel remaining before he arrived at the BFF-1, he received his promotion to Staff Flight Sergeant. While Stones was glad that he now held a much higher rank then before, the promotions seemed extremely hollow, and felt as if they had been granted more out of pity for the assignment of this terrible vessel, rather then having been actually earned.

Flying the BFF-1 proved to be much more productive then the other ship. Its much higher loading capacity as well as its superior hyperdrive motivator allowed Stones to complete assignments at a much more rapid pace. He would no longer have to deliver materials to far away systems, but instead most of his work now revolved around gathering freshly mined resources and then bringing those to various space station in different nearby systems. It would be the same thing for a couple of months, where Stones would be supplying mostly shipyards with the materials needed to keep ship production running. While it perhaps was not as exciting as flying TIE fighters, it was productive at the very least. It was also during this period, whilst flying the BFF-1, that Orphaea Imperium seized many Imperial assets in order to force Emperor Vodo Bonias to abdicate, which eventually ended in Thomas Cherokee becoming the new Emperor of the Galactic Empire. During this period, Stones had become unable to further execute his assignments, as the facilities he was supposed to take materials from were now no longer in the hands of the Empire. On top of that, after Cherokee had taken control, the Fleet Commanding officer raised a question to all of his men, on the topic where their loyalties laid. Stones had not joined the Empire to follow a single man, as his response indicated. The exact words he had said were: "I am loyal to the Empire, thus including its throne as well, no matter if it was Bonias still sitting on it, Emperor Cherokee, or even Binky while smoking a fat cigar." Binky, being an 'fairly' intelligent creature, was the fleet's mascot. Stones had remembered that back when he was a Crewman that a fellow Crewman had made a comment that Binky, while smoking a fat cigar and sitting at an office desk, would have been able to do a better job then Emperor Bonias. For Stones, it seemed only fitting to add that in while pointing out what he was loyal to. At the end of the day, he was and remained an Imperial, loyal to the Galactic Empire itself, and not necessarily its Emperor.

Jorn Stones is a member of Naval Command, serving as the Naval Logistics Officer and is also the Group Commanding Officer of the 7th Group, 6th Imperial Fleet.

"Its always the same story.. They come somewhere and are to stubborn to leave, then start running as soon as you come closer to them. Three capital vessels opposing my single Star Destroyer, and they run..."
— Jorn Stones, speaking about his rebel opponents during a simulated battle scenario.

Early Life

((Hell if I'll ever get inspiration to write something here.))

Life in the Empire

Imperial Academy

After Stones had enlisted for the Galactic Empire, he and multiple other new recruits were transported to the Imperial Academy by Lambda-Shuttle. It was here that he met his training officer, a young man only a few years older then himself; Lieutenant Commander Daniel Ascarion. Unbeknownst to Stones, the man that was now his training officer would later become the Naval Commanding Officer. Stones went through the many lessons at a steady pace, learning more and more about the workings within the Empire, and the many craft that he would fly, and would later command. After weeks of studying and making tests, he and his peers were called to the parade grounds. For Stones awaited a graduation with honors, and a promotion to Crewman. His life in the Empire could now truly begin.

The Shadow Fleet

Soon after having graduated, Stones was assigned to the 5th Imperial Fleet, commonly referred to as 'The Shadow Fleet'. At the time, the 5th Imperial Fleet was commanded by Vice Admiral Overmind, who would soon after take on a position in Naval Command as Signals Officer. This left the fleet in the hands of Commander Mayas Lennorian, who would be Stones CO for some time to come. Shortly after having joined up with the rest of the fleet, Stones met a man who would later be known as Lasidious von Feldure, a fellow Crewman whom just as Stones would later be well known throughout the Navy. He and Stones would both hold the same ranks for a long time to come, it wouldn't be until they were both officers that they finally stopped wearing the same rank.

As a junior enlisted, Stones was nothing more then just a fighter pilot. After his rendezvous with the Fleet, he had been made a member of the Black Hand squadron, which consisted of only regular TIE fighters. Strangely enough, and for reasons unbeknown to Stones, he never had to fly together with the squadron. Instead, he would be sent out on solo mission on a daily basis to patrol nearby lanes and trade routes, or even go as far as the opposite side of systems in search for hostile entities. While it felt strange to be flying alone in a tiny star fighter, and certainly did not feel safe at all, Stones did enjoy the freedom of being able to fly by himself, instead of having to follow another. He would remain doing this for some time, until he was one day ordered to stay aboard the Star Destroyer he was based on; they were going to deploy elsewhere.

The carrier Stones was assigned to was tasked to head to his home system; Corellia. The increases in trade in the system had led to the trade routes becoming full and chaotic, up to the point that local security was no longer capable of halting any smugglers who tried to reach the nearby planets. It now became a task of the Navy to do so. Deploying with a heap of other pilots, and with new craft, namely TIE/Sr Scouts, they were issued orders to individually patrol the trade routes. They had to scan the cargo of the many passing freighters in search of any illegal substances, and keep an eye on where they were going. Any smugglers found would be reported, and subsequently arrested on the planet surface. For various days, Stones patrolled the southernmost lane, and even though he was barely able to find any smugglers in this relatively quiet route, he did manage to catch something else. Something much bigger.

As Stones was patrolling the routes for yet another day, in the far distance something caught his eye. One by one, a heap of Capital vessels left hyperspace and started flying deeper into the system. Using the powerful scanners of his ship, Stones was able to zoom in on the distance ships, and the moment he saw the image, alarm bells started ringing inside his head. These Capital ships were nothing else but MC80's, and the giant logo on their side pointed out that they belonged to the Falleen Federation, an enemy of the Empire! Quickly Stones tried to contact his direct superiors, but being unable to manage to establish a connection, decided to go search from someone higher up. He succeeded in making contact with Naval Command, and report that a large fleet of Falleen Federation vessels had entered Corellian space and were on the move. Stones' quick response and reporting allowed Imperial reinforcements to rapidly head for the system, while Stones kept his Scout's sensors in range of the hostile fleet, but not his own ship in the range of their lasers, and continued to report on the situation. Hours later the first reinforcements arrived and more followed. Unable to do whatever they intended to due to the ever increasing Imperial presence, the Falleen Fleet jumped back into hyperspace without a single shot having been fired. After the fleet left the mission in Corellia continued as normal, and throughout the next few days Stones had some additional success in his searches. He identified various vessels that were heading for some of the planets in the system, that shouldn't be getting any traffic at all. They were subsequently taken care of, turning out to be New Republican freighters that were attempting to set up bases on these planets.

Throughout the next month, Stones kept being deployed all on his own, and his new orders no longer made him rely on a carrier to bring him to different places either. Under these new orders he was now authorized to jump to remote systems in the nearby area, and conduct various assignments there in solitude. But on one occasion he would work together with two other pilots, which instead of coming from his own unit belong to a different fleet. One of these pilots would become a friend of Stones, well over a year later. But at that time, Stones had not thought much of this pilot. The mission they had was not particularly hard to execute, but did require them to be quite active in doing so. After doing a standard patrol through a remote system, they had to descend to a planet's surface, and investigate if there were any cities secretly existing there. By the time the two other pilots arrived, Stones had already finished the patrol and started looking for settlements. When the mission was brought to a close, only Stones had completed his share, which was half the surface of a large ocean world.

Flying freight

Stones next orders surprised him. It was hardly anything he would have expected to do while in the Navy. Instead of receiving orders to patrol a sector here, or to stop an incursion there, he gained orders to take command of a Class VI Bulk Freighter and start ferrying materials from surface mines to an orbital station. Believing this to just be a short assignment for which no other personnel could be found, Stones didn't object and set out to take 'Command' of this Freighter. Upon arrival, what he found was a an aging vessel without any crew, abandoned in a depot for years without having received even the slightest bit of maintenance. Rust covered much of the interior, only a handful of lamps were not broken, and many systems were barely working and in ill repair. After Stones had double checked that the critical systems still worked and flew the metal hulk away from the depot, he wasn't actually sure what he should be more shocked about; the fact that his superiors made him fly a freighter which should have been permanently scrapped years ago, or the fact that it was actually still capable of flight.

For the next few days Stones flew the old freighter back and forth to the surface of a planet and a station in orbit. Each single time was another moment filled with anxiety for Stones, hoping that the ill-maintained vessel would not simply disintegrate when entering the atmosphere. Evey single descend rocked the freighter heavily, and would cause more and more metal plating of the interior to break loose and fall onto the ground. It was during this time in his life that Stones actually felt afraid of losing it, knowing death could come at any certain time, one wrong bolt breaking off could be enough to rip the ship to pieces in a blazing fire. However, the freighter proved itself to be more resilient then it looked and felt, and after more then a week of ferrying materials it was still flying. Just before he completed his assignment, Stones had received word that he had been promoted to Flight Corporal. It was strange for him to receive word of his promotion by standard voice communications, but he was glad to finally have been promoted to the next rank. Having to wait for new orders and with his ship floating motionlessly in space, Stones decided to take whatever tools he could find aboard the freighter and set out to repair any damage inside the ship that he could find and fix.

However, after the three weeks had passed the construction workers on-site were surprised to see another freighter had arrived.

Materials and other matters

The first Command

Business as usual continued, and Stones was soon promoted to the final enlisted rank he would hold; Master Flight Sergeant. Again however, continued the hauling of raw materials, which by now seemed to be an task that would never end. But, after only a few weeks, a rank restructure took place.
