The Third Imperial Fleet, also known by its abbreviation as 3IF, is a combination of the original Fourth and Eighth Imperial Fleets after the Navy Restructuring on Day 221 of Year 12. This fleet is tasked with the protection of the Corellian Sector, in addition to defending the ideals and goals of the Empire as a whole, and enforcing the will of the Emperor. The fleet was formed under the command of Commodore Arya Downing. The original 4th and 8th Imperial fleets were re-organised into the 4th Recon Group commanded by Commander Galdarzz Aalon as GCO and Lieutenant Commander Jarek Darklighter as GXO, and the 8th Assault Group commanded by Captain Khaleon Hope as GCO and Lieutenant Commander Jevan Katherion as GXO.

It is an unfortunate fact that the proud Corellian name has long been linked in the galactic conscious to those of a less respectable nature. Be they criminals, pirates, smugglers or rebels. The combination of fierce pride and an ever independent nature often leading young Corellians astray before either trait could be channelled productively by civilised society. Unfortunately with their natural inclination towards taking and succeeding at high risk-high reward strategies Corellians also have a tendency to be remarkably more successful than most in those dangerous lines of work. Put them in their home ground, a Sector which also happens to have vast wealth passing along multiple trade routes at an astounding rate, and even the most optimistic members of standard security forces would decide to retire. That's before mentioning the rest of the galaxies criminals, rebels and other enemies of the Empire turning up for their cut of the illicit gains to be had. Whilst they may be able to run rings around more traditional forces none, however, bargain for the lengths taken by the Fourth Group of the Third Imperial fleet to protect the sectors prestigious wealth and vital Imperial supply lines.

Working with Imperial Intelligence and CorSec the Fourth Group employ their considerably naval resources with precision to effectively and efficiently dismantle criminal operations within the sector. Ensuring the many important trade clusters and powerful corporations of the sector can retain confidence in the security of the sectors hyper routes. With the Corellian Run and Corellian Trade Spine being two of the galaxies largest and most important trade routes this is no small task. Even when the most obscure routes are used to strike the Fourth Group are always ready and waiting to intercept those that attempt to use them, ensuring they will never do so again. Where the Old Republic allowed pirates and smugglers to prosper for thousands of years, the Fourth Group ensures the sectors legitimate business can continue to fuel the Imperial economy unhindered by illegal activity.

In a Galaxy divided by war maintaining the supply lines required to achieve military superiority becomes important not just for the sector itself but for the entire galaxy. As awe inspiring as the firepower of a Star Destroyer is, it takes more than technology to protect as tempting a target as military assets being shipped from Corellias many shipyards and factories. Constantly adapting their techniques the repertoire of the Fourth Group is known to stretch more than little beyond that of conventional forces. Methods described as unorthodox after success would be labelled as insane and discarded without attempt anywhere else. When you constantly outwit even the most cunning enemies of the Empire on a regular basis however, you're entitled to a little flexibility when it comes to inventive tactics. Granted that flexibility the Fourth Group can and will continue to outmanoeuvre any foe.

The Eighth Group of the Third Imperial Fleet. A deadly combination of extreme firepower, the likes of which few in the Galaxy could ever hope to challenge, with the highly skilled and unpredictable pilots the Third Fleet is known for. A combination considered by many more cautious officers to be a potentially volatile mixture. Yet in the hands of seasoned commanders this potent mix results in a group capable of feats others would deem impossible. A group relentless on the offence, insurmountable in defence, respected by both friend and by foe yet whose tactics often remain a mystery to both. Though able to perform standard Imperial manoeuvres to the letter, their true capabilities are revealed in how they use their ships in a manner few would imagine possible, and even fewer can imagine how to defend against.

Responsible for preventing disruption of the Corellian sectors significant and vital industrial capacity the Eighth group is used to standing firm against the enemy. The key element in the wide array of defences preventing any harm falling to the Corellian people, their numerous shipyards or their vast network of factories. Allowing them to fuel the Imperial economy and expand the resources of the Imperial military unhindered by the criminal or rebel elements to which they are a prime target. The Eighth Group is constantly aware of the consequences to the Empire as a whole if the supply of ships and material is interrupted, or worse, co-opted by the Empires enemies. The Eighth Group is constantly at work to prevent any such occurrence.

Tasked with keeping a keen and watchful eye on the mysterious and poorly understood Centrepoint station, constantly aware of the threat its unknown power could pose if ever awoken. Prepared to take whatever action is necessary to ensure it continues to bring wealth into the sector as the hub of galactic trade it has grown to be, and only as that hub. Patrolling Eighth Group Star Destroyers, TIE fighter and TIE Bomber squadrons act as a stoic reminder to the stations occupants that the Empire extends a sheltering hand to legitimate trade. An iron fist should anyone reach too far and threaten the stability of Imperial territory.

1st Group
When entrusted with the protection of a Sector so sure to demand everything even they can give being capable of achieving the impossible is the only option. For the Eighth Group it is more than simply their duty to bring a time of peace and prosperity to a sector that has seen upheaval and war for too much of its history. It has become their very nature to provide such a symbol of hope and strength that even the most fiercely independent of Corellian factions can rest easy knowing their fate is well cared for in Imperial hands. To be a symbol that every Corellian can have pride in as an example of what they can achieve in co-operation with the Empire.

The Third Imperial Fleet (3IF) is one of three active service fleets deployed by the Galactic Empire. The 3rd Fleet's area of responsibility is the Amber Region, comprised of the Corporate Oversector. Its Regional Headquarters are located in the Dromund system.

The 3rd Fleet is currently commanded by Rear Admiral Garret Vin-Reth.

History

The 3IF was formed as the 2nd Imperial Fleet during Year 12 with pilots and officers from other units that all came together to hold the ground and maintain the tradition of Imperial Navy excellence. The vast stretches of the Kuat Sector and the lives and well-being of the Imperial citizens calling it home required some of the most skilled pilots the Empire had to offer. Out of this need the former Second Fleet was born.

In Year 22, following the new Military Restructure under Emperor Seele, the 2nd Imperial Fleet was re-designated to the 3rd Imperial Fleet.

Joint Task Force 22

A joint Fleet and Army military action that occurred in Year 16. The details are marked *Secret/Classified*.

Joint Task Force Delta

In Year 21, the Joint Task Force Delta engaged enemy forces in an event that became known as the Battle of Korriz I.

Former Component Units

The former 2nd Imperial Fleet was composed of several subordinate groups prior to the Year 22 Military Restructuring, when the group structure was abolished. This section briefly describe each of these former groups in terms of their roles, history and the sector where it was stationed.

1st Group

The 1st Group functioned as an assault unit stationed at the Kuat Oversector. This group was merged into the 2nd Group on day 214 of year 15, to maximize the fleet effectiveness and promote group interaction. After 2 years, on Year 17 Day 263, it was reactivated as an assault group, receiving a full personnel transfer from the previous mentioned 2nd Group. The 1st remained as such until Year 20, when it was finally incorporated into the 7th Group.

2nd Group

The 2nd Group functioned as a reconnaissance unit stationed at the Kuat Oversector. This group remained active until Year 17 Day 263, when it was rotated into the reserves, with all its personnel transferring into the newly activated 1st Group.

6th Group

The 6th Group functioned as a unit stationed at the Corporate Oversector. It was originally formed on Year 8 Day 276, as the 6th Imperial Fleet. After the merger of the Galactic Empire and the New Imperial Order, they were assigned to Corporate Sector where they served as the backbone of the Empire's defenses of its far flung oversector. Re-designated during the Year 12 reforms as 6th Group, the Group joined the 7th and 12th Groups to form the 6th Imperial Fleet. On Year 17 Day 200 it was transferred to the 2nd Imperial Fleet, where it served until its deactivation around Year 18.

7th Group

The 7th Group functioned as a reconnaissance unit stationed at the Corporate Oversector. It was originally formed during the Naval reforms of Year 9 as the 7th Imperial Fleet, a special operations fleet allocated at the Corellian Sector. Following the unification of the Galactic Empire and the New Imperial Order, the 7th Fleet was reassigned to the outlying Corporate Oversector. During the reforms on Year 12 the 7th Fleet was renamed to the 7th Group, joining the newly-formed 6th Group as part of the 6th Imperial Fleet, gaining a focus on reconnaissance. Eventually the 7th Group was moved into the Reserves, its expertise being dispersed into 6th Group to better support the fleet as a whole.

Later, the 7th Group was reactivated under the auspices of the 2nd Imperial Fleet and once more assigned to protect the remote Corporate Oversector. Following the new Military Restructure during Year 22, the group structure was abolished and the 7th deactivated.
