Childhood

Early Years

Not much is remembered of his early years. David was a typical Hapan youth, growing up on the planet Lorell in the Hapes Cluster with his mother Melissa Connell. His father, William Connell was a Major in the Royal Hapan Military's Ground Forces. So he was always out taking care of missions or the like.

Young Adulthood

David wasn't always the brightes kid in the classroom, but he got through just fine. He wasn't quite the popular kid either, but he was always surrounded by a crowd of friends. The day came for his graduation. David was excited. He was to enlist the next day with the Royal Hapan Military. He was going to follow in his father's footsteps. After the entire graduating class received their certificates, David waded through the crowd to find his mother, but she was no where to be seen. He continued to search until he spotted her. She was near the exit of the building talking to two guys in Hapan Military Uniforms. David approched them with a great big smile, but it quickly faded when his mother turned to him. Her face was soaked with tears. One of the military men turned, and placed a hand on David's shoulder and handed him something wrapped in a tattered cloth. He carefully unwrapped the contents. It was his fater's rank insignia. The men explained to him how while on a top secret mission, which was still Top Secret, his father had been taken prisoner aboard a pirate vessel and was later confirmed dead as a package was received at the local outpost containing a body part and his rank insignia.[1]

David stared at the men. There was a feeling of hate begining to swell up inside him. The man tried to consol him again, but David was not wanting pity. He shrugged off the man's hand, then swiftly delt him a blow to the face. David stormed out of the building. He hurried home, packed his military back and left his mom a note. David had a new found discontent with the Hapan Military, but he had been waiting for the day he would be able to serve. He knew nothing else, but Army. He decided to join the Galactic Empire, and join their Army. He also figured that this would be the best way to get back at the damned pirates that killed his father.

Galactic Empire

Imperial Enlistment

David Connell enlisted in the Galactic Empire. He was unsure of what lay before him, but was eager to set forth on his journey. Not long after enlisting he arrived at the Imperial Academy. Soon after reporting in, he was assigned to a professor. David had the priviledge to be placed under the Deputy Provost General Daniel Ascarion. Daniel gave David the course syllabus and set him off to work. Before the day was out, David stood before his instructor with all his assignments completed and turned in. He was graduated from the academy at the end of the week as a Private of the Imperial Army.

First Experiences as an Imperial

David received his newly issued Army uniform along with his rank bars, graduation ribbon, security clearence cylinders, legion assignment. He immediately headed of to the messhall to show off his new bars and attempt to meet some new people (as well as getting a little food to eat). There he met a Staff Seargent by the name of Johnny Sasaki. They quickly hit it off and became friends.

Soon after meeting some people in his new unit he bagan waiting patiently to be assigned some work, and to be picked up. He was soon contacted by 2nd Lieutenant Petrov Kazlov. He was to pick David up and transport him to his assignment. He arrived at David's position within the day, and David boarded the 2nd Lieutenant's ship to his beginings in the Imperial Army. After an hour or so David received a personal message from Lieutenant Colonel Tec Vaan. The message told David of the 2nd Lieutenant's defection from the Galactic Empire. David and a fellow new Private were being held hostage by the new traitor. So he truely was following in his father's footsteps. Comrade turned traitor. David was determined, however, not to end up like his father. David would live on. A fire grew within him. A new resolve to survive burned. After reading the message David silently checked his surroundings. He and the other captive were alone in the entrance chamber of the traitor's YT-1300. David strolled around the room, checking for items, or a way out as instructed by Lt. Col. Vaan. No luck. Kazlov had removed any loose items, and sealed up all doors with security locks. David reported the situation to the Lt. Col. and waited patiently for the ship to stop.

After about a day of travel, the ship came to a stop. David had no idea where they were. Kazlov soon entered the chamber. David stood up and glared at the defector. With out a word Kazlov grabbed the other hostage, and shoved him through a port hole into a neighboring ship. Complying with the traitor, so as not to provoke him, David went along after the other private.

Upon entering the new ship he was greeted by a member of the Falleen Federation Army by the rank and name of Major Io Toda. They were aboard a Modular Star Hauler belonging to the Falleen Federation Ministry of Engineering. He instructed them to enter his private ship so he may transport the hostages to a neutral starport for a safe release. David, thinking quickly, asked to use the latrine under false statements that the recent travel had upset his stomach. The request was granted. David used the opportunity to contact Lt. Col. Vaan. He reported their situation and requested instruction. After a short conversation with the Lt. Col., David boarded Major Toda's ship.

It was a rather short trip. Toda had docked into a neutral starport. The captives were instructed to get out. They were given some money to make sure they could afford to book a trip off planet. Before leaving, David once again saught Lt. Col. Vaan's conucil on his actions before he made a move. After brainstorming possible ways to take down Toda, they came to the conclusion that it was not worth the risk. David exited Toda's ship. He quickly made his way around the starport, and found a small room in the back of the starport. He hid back there to be sure Toda hadn't changed his mind about the peaceful release. He waited patiently for Lieutenant Colonel Vaan to come pick him up personally.

Footnotes

  1. Later in life, David uncovered the truth of his father's death. His partner on the mission turned traitor, and handed William to the pirates. It is rumored that he carried out the execution himself to prove himself worthy to the pirates.
