This village's existence at this time has been confirmed by comparing the Csillan tax records with various ruins spread across that province. The next confirmed record of Durandal's past is his incomplete Chiss Expansionary Defense Force file. It details the beginning of his military career, but offers to hint to what happened to him after Year -999 when, by Mr. Falkenberg's account, Durandal joined the CEDF's intelligence wing. His recorded military career was rather unbelievable and was originally filed as false, until the rest of the database it came from was analyzed and corroborating information, verified by other sources.

Durandal never graduated from the CEDF academy. During his first semester there it was attacked by a separatist group from Shiin, a covert attack in a wee hours of the morning, before dawn. Durandal was on watch and, while leaning down to retrieve his canteen, was barely missed by a sniper shot. He went limp and dropped to the ground, as if hit, and readied his only weapon... a knife. He looked up, barely moving, noting that the other three cadets on watch had been killed. Coming out of the darkness in shadow suits, the assassins approached and one started to check the bodies while the other 7 fanned out through the complex, carrying satchels of explosives. As the assassin went to check Durandal, Durandal kicked the intruder square in the groin, dropping him to his knees. And, springing up, he stabbed his knife through intruder's throat. When the man stopped gurgling, Durandal yanked the knife out and took his gear before heading for the academy barracks. Another shadow suited intruder was standing guard at the entrance. He dropped to one knee, resting his elbow on his other knee to stead his aim with the fallen intruder's sniper rifle. Durandal pulled the trigger and the intruder's head exploded. There was no noise, no flash, just death. Knowing he had limited time to work with, Durandal charged into the barracks, where the remaining intruders were killing cadets in their sleep. Durandal's fury drove him as he moved through the barracks, not daring to raise the alarm and send more of his friends to their deaths as they made a suicide run for the armory. He came upon a pair of intruders, one of them setting a frame charge while the other stood vigilant. As Durandal raised his weapon, the intruder saw him and they fired at almost the same instant, Durandal's shot catching him in the chest, dropping him. But Durandal had been hit as well, grazed in the shoulder. The intruder's partner went for his gun and shouted, breaking the silence. Deimos gunned him down, but was now being hunted. The other four intruders could be heard running towards him from two directions. Durandal dropped the sniper rifle and picked up the two fallen intruder's side arms and fell back towards the cafeteria. They charged after him, gaining. But, he ducked into a janitorial closet and hid for a moment as they rounded a corner and ran past. Right as they passed him, he threw open the door, slamming the last one running down the hall to the ground. He stepped out as they turned around, firing with the two pistols in his hands, and unlike the sniper rifle, these shots rang out loud as he shot true, killing the three intruders in front of him. He turned, looking down at the one he had slammed, just in time to be shot again, this time in the gut. Durandal dropped to his knees, and fired sloppily at the last intruder, hitting him in the legs. As his vision went dark he could only hope he had gotten them all.

He awoke the next day in the academy's medical facility, having spent 24 hours in a bacta bath. He was alone in his room, and as he looked around, he noticed a few things pinned to his bed sheet. A second lieutenant's rank bars and the medals for being wounded in battle and for heroism. Durandal was discharged a few days later, and was ordered to report to 2nd Platoon, Echo Company, 1st Battalion, 42nd Mobile Infantry regiment of CEDF Fleet Marines to relieve an officer who had been wounded in battle. He served in this post until Year -999 when he was officially transferred to a unit that did not exist... and listed as KIA.

Biography

In The Beginning

What very little information is known about Mr. Falkenberg's past before Year 7 is garnered from ancient Csillian archives and is not considered reliable. Mr. Falkenberg's memory before Year 7 is fragmented.

In Year -1023 Midur`an`dalor "Durandal" was born to Midur`al`orum and Chaf`ees`aklaio in the village of Abe`n`ga, Northern Province, Csilla, Unknown Regions.

The following is an excerpt from his recruitment interview for the New Anzat Order Guard, during which Deimos detailed what he does remember of his first life:

"I never graduated from the CEDF academy. During my first semester there we were attacked by a separatist group from Shiin, a covert attack in a wee hours of the morning, before dawn." He shifted in his chair in the briefing room, obviously nervous in front of the NAO MoS agent.

"I was on watch and, while leaning down to retrieve my canteen, was barely missed by a sniper shot. I dropped to the ground, as if hit, and readied my only weapon... a knife. I saw them coming out of the darkness, they approached and one started to check the bodies while the other 7 headed for the barracks, carrying satchels of explosives."

"As the assassin went to check me, I kicked him in the groin, dropping him to his knees. And, springing up, I stabbed him through the throat. When the man stopped gurgling, I yanked the knife out and took his gear before heading for the academy barracks." He looked down at the conference table, "I had killed for the first time, it felt strange. I felt no remorse for the man I had slain..." He looked back up at the MoS agent, "Just... anger."

"There was another one standing guard at the entrance of the barracks. I dropped to one knee, took aim, and shot him in the head. The rifle was silent. Then, charging into the barracks, I stopped. I looked into a friend of mine's room, he was dead, him and his roommate shot in their sleep." He sighed, "If I was angry at them before, I was furious now. So blinded by inconsolable rage I wanted nothing but to stop them and kill them."

"I came upon a pair of them, one of them setting a frame charge while the other stood vigilant. I shot him, catching him in the chest, dropping him. As he fell his dying shot hit my shoulder. His partner went for his gun and shouted, breaking the silence. I gunned him down." He took a drink of water from the glass on the conference table before pulling his shirt collar to one side, revealing a blaster wound scar.

"I could hear the others coming, fast. I dropped the sniper rifle and picked up the two fallen men's side arms and fell back towards the cafeteria. They charged after me." He said as he fixed his collar. "I ducked into a janitorial closet and hid for a moment as they rounded a corner and ran past. As they passed me, I threw open the door, slamming the last one running down the hall to the ground."

"I stepped out as they turned around, firing with the two pistols, and unlike the sniper rifle, these shots were deafening. I killed the three that had made it past me." He lifted his shirt, revealing a large scar on his gut, "I had turned around just in time to be shot again, by the one I had knocked down. I dropped, but kept shooting, killing him."

"The next day I awoke in the academy's medical facility, having some time in a bacta tank." He tucked his shirt back in and smiled, "I was field commissioned as a second lieutenant and awarded medals for being wounded in battle and for heroism. I remember being assigned to an infantry unit... but not much after that."

According to his service record, Durandal was discharged a few days later, and was ordered to report to 2nd Platoon, Echo Company, 1st Battalion, 42nd Mobile Infantry regiment of CEDF Fleet Marines to relieve an officer who had been wounded in battle. He served in this post until Year -999 when he was officially transferred to a unit that had been wiped out weeks before... and listed as KIA.

An Awakening

Yet again Durandal awoke in a hospital bed... he had been having a nightmare for what felt like an eternity. He knew things he could not explain, knowledge of the galaxy beyond the Unknown Regions and Languages in their modern form. As he came to his senses, he noticed he was in a research room, being looked over by some doctors, technicians and scientists. One of them shouted, "It's waking up! We're not ready yet, quickly, sedate him." This did not sit well with him, and he went to get up, but noticed he was strapped down. A nurse hurried over and stuck a needle into the IV feeding him, injecting something. As she did this, she winked. He felt the drug enter his body... but it did not have the doctor's desired effect, instead waking Durandal further and causing him to rip the straps loose from their mounts on the bed he was on. He felt, somehow, stronger, faster and tougher than he once was. Grabbing the doctor by his shirt, he asked him, "What year is it?" and the doctor responded, terrified, "Go... going from yu... your calendar... it's 2006."

He had been kept in stasis for a little over a thousand years... or so it would appear. Were his memories of his previous life implanted or real? There is no way to be certain, but it is certain that he believed it. He escaped from the research facility, which was beneath a hospital on Coruscant. Stowing away on the first transport he could find, he ended up on Anzat. Having nothing but the clothing on his back, he found the nearest NAO recruiting center and signed up under the alias Deimos Falkenberg.
