The Interdictor Classis the smallest of all of the Star Destroyers but what it lacks in size it makes up for in technical ability. This vessel is currently in use by the Galactic Empire to patrol hyperspace lanes and to support offensive attacks where the enemy cannot be allowed to escape.
The Interdictor Class is by far one of the most expensive assets of the Empire but with reason.
Description
Usually found in the rear of a formation or closely grouped with the supporting units, the Interdictor only carries 80 Heavy Lasers in conjunction with its four Mass Shadow Generators.
In addition to its technical ability, this vessel can also house a complement of fighters and bombers in its hanger bay to help support any assignment.
Roles in the Galactic Empire
The Galactic Empire uses Interdictor Star Destroyers to support naval operations and orbital assaults where the enemy cannot be allowed to escape. This vessel may also be found lurking in hyperspace routes known for rebellious activity in which they can randomly select and inspect ships coming in from hyperspace.
The Imperial Navy will often times reserve the usage of the Interdictor to a minimum when assaulting hostile lands due to its sheer cost. This vessel can usually be found supporting high ranking officials within their fleets.
