Kiari Del'croix (IMID 1100097)

So you want to know about me? I am flattered that you would take notice. But I must confess my story is long so if you have the stamina than sit with me and let me spin you my tale.

Biography

The Early Years

kiari19.jpg

I was born in the year fourty-eighteen or year negative eight day fifty if you prefer standard galactic time, into the arms of my mother Baroness Selene Del’croix XXIV. I didn’t know my father, his name was never revealed to me, and my mother was never keen on finding out. My mother kept many concubines around the estate, so really anyone of them could have been my father. I didn’t really feel there was a part of me missing back than. I was too young to know about the birds and the bee’s and thought that my mother’s lifestyle was perfectly normal, I didn’t know any alternative.

I have two sisters both older than me, their names are Mak’lene Del’croix and Dar’anna Del’croix. I was closer to Dar’anna than I was Mak’lene. Dar’anna was only two years older than I while Mak’lene was 6 years older. I remember how elusive Mak’lene was, and still is for that matter, in the early years. Because she barely talked to me and because I barely saw her she seemed mysterious; as if she was apart of the family but really wasn’t. The few conversations I’ve had with her seemed pleasant enough as I remember, though I wish I could have known her better.

Dar’anna was my best friend during those early days. I remember us chasing each other and worrying the house staff. Hide N’ Seek in the gardens surrounding our estate was our most favorite game, ah those years were grand.

As you could probably tell my family is rather wealthy. We used to be Nobels awhile back. But that was taken from us with the rise of King Andrew Starfyre’s reign, but I’ll discuss more of that later on.

Even though we no longer had the official status of Nobels, we lived like ones and still some of our vassals were close to the family. I was taught how to act in proper society, how to walk, talk, dance, and sing. I went through the motions like a proper pupil even though secretly I’d rather be in the gardens. Back then I never quite understood why my family kept up the appearances of nobility, but I realize now it was because that’s all they had.

My family lived a life of isolation that was only occasionally broken by traditional balls, vassals coming to speak with my mother, or when we the house received visitors of many stripes seeking an investor.

I knew about the Hapan Cluster, the other people just like me who lived and interacted with each on a near daily basis. Often I would go to the balcony outside my room and just stare in the distance, wondering if another little girl just like me was staring back. I loved my sisters and all, well Dar’anna the most, but I would of liked friends that I wasn’t related to.

Teenage Years

After I grew into a teenager and the subsequent years following up until adulthood, my life was filled with more lessons; though these lessons weren’t about dancing, making small talk, which utensil goes with which food, or even singing lessons. No these involved economics, refined mathematics, time management, business related courses, investment futures, the stock market. Ugh I felt like I was stuck in a perpetual nightmare of facts and figures and earning strategies.

My only break from my forced business education was my calligraphy class, and my swordsmanship class. Forgive me, I keep saying lessons and class like I was actually enrolled in a school. No, all my lessons were administered by a hired tutor.

She also took up calligraphy and traditional dance. She looks back upon this period with great happiness.

Adult Life

When Kiari reached the age of 18 she was presented to the other nobles that had fled to the outer territories with her family, during a grand introduction ball that was steeped heavily in tradition that was as old as her house its self. Her smiling dark eyes greeted the various people who attended and was more than a little embarrassed to be referred to as Lady Del'croix by so many people she didn't know.

In an effort to at least get some breathing room between her and her mother Kiari suggested that she follow in her mothers footsteps and join the navy, though clearly the Royal Hapan Navy was out of the question. She instead decided to join the Galactic Empire. After convincing her mother that an expansion into the empire could bring new found wealth to the house, it was decided and she was on the next transport to the Imperial Academy after consulting with a recruiter.

Service Life

The Academy

The academy was a welcomed adjustment from her usual routine. Having already been raised with a system of hierarchy born into her, she melted in seamlessly in with the other recruits. She managed to pass the courses with an overall grade of 91&; a personal best for her seeing as how her only other source of education was Hapan related.

Even though she did adjust to academy life rather well, she did feel like an outsider. She didn't have the presence of mind to study imperial culture before she left for the academy, and thus set herself up for a great deal of culture shock. She had to learn that her house name meant nothing here, and that she was the same as all the other recruits. She had to learn to practice restraint instead of just doing whatever she wanted. Not to mention she had to get used to males being put in a position of authority over her. That last part took more adjusting than all the rest, because whenever she was given an order it was met with anger tugging just behind her eyes.

Fleet Appointment

Upon graduation from the academy she was promoted to the rank of Crewman and assigned to a fleet. While she waited for pickup most of her time was spent in her temporary quarters in the capital. Here she continued her studies into the culture of this foreign empire, trying to blend in with the locals but failing almost at every turn. It would be something she'd have to continue to work on during her stay in the empire.

House Del'croix

Historical Background

Kiari is descended from the House Del’croix; a house belonging to the Turilii class of nobles. The house was founded in the year 702 during the reign of Queen-Mother Tini'duran III who founded the nobility. Baroness Selene Del’croix was appointed as matriarch of the house by the Queen-Mother. Being among the lowest ranked among the nobility they governed a small city on the 2nd Ralaphon moon, in which they devoted the majority of the houses wealth in R&D Weapons Research facilities, as an investment in hopes of increasing their status among the other nobles.

They continued their rule throughout the Age of Queen-Mothers all the way till the end of the Hapan Civil War. Due to following House Olanji, which annexed their world in the year 800, into the Draconian Union in the year 3946, they lost their title of nobility after the rise of King Andrew.

During the Hapan Civil War they kept House Olanji well stocked with arms and with weapons of incredible destructive capability. As the war drew to a close House Del’croix was on the verge of creating a doomsday weapon, with plans of it being used against Lorell. The project was aptly named Project Omega, due to its use signifying the end of the Phoenix Movement. Project Omega was capable of creating a weapon that could cause artificial gamma bursts, similar to the ones released from stars collapsing in on themselves during their later stages of life, but not nearly as strong. The high concentration of the energy of the burst could destroy entire planets and their close neighbors. The project was cloaked in secrecy with only leaders of House Olanji knowing of its existence.

With the signing of the Gallinore Accords work on the project was halted. With every noble now scrambling to hold on to power with the ascent of King Andrew Starfyre to the throne, House Del’croix also made its bid to remain in power, but ultimately lost.

With their nobility stripped from them, and a breeder now sitting on the throne House Del’croix moved from its traditional holding on the 2nd Ralaphon moon to Saleb. Though House Del’croix is not officially recognized as a house, its members still treat themselves as if they are still nobility. Due to the large wealth acquired during the Hapan Civil War the house was able to purchase a comfortable home on one of the minor continents on the planet.

Even though House Del’croix refuses to put forth future politicians in the Royal University of Saleb, due to their conservative nature clashing with the liberal stance of the crown allowing breeders to sit on the throne, the house still looks to its survival among all else.
