Zaryna Malone is a Cathar/Bothan hybrid female who, to the surprise of her family decided to take a massive leap of faith and depart her home-world to forge a new path into her future as a proud, albeit alienated, Imperial. A feline with determination, dedication and a sincere personality, Zaryna made it through the first half of her Imperial Academy life, passing her exams with an exceptional score of over 97%.

Biography

Although it was not uncommon for the Bothan race to have the ability to breed with other species, one would not expect to find a Cathar woman mated with a Bothan and carrying his litter. The Malone name had been known throughout the ages as being the finest intelligence operatives, but when Zyakin met the beautiful Cathar, Leona, he chose to put the life of spying behind him to focus on being more of a family man, a noble and honorable husband and a doting father to his sons and daughter. Being of both Bothan and Cathar genetics, not one of the litter looked even remotely like their siblings; Rynik appeared more Bothan than Cathar, Kilmack was a Bothan with a subtle felinesque head and Zyakia looked more like his mother in all ways, minus the coarser fur and his eager willingness to learn.

Zaryna on the other hand was equally as hardworking and intelligent as her brothers but shunned by them because she was the most special in her mother's eyes. Mostly feline, she was the spitting image of her mother adorning thick black locks and spots, but with a long tail that came from her father's DNA as well as inheriting his golden lion-like eyes. She was unique in more ways than one, not only in looks but in her demeanour and overall general traits. She saw the Galactic Empire as a challenge she wanted to accomplish, no matter how long it took her, sending in an application before casually mentioning it to her family. Her brothers laughed at her, her mother was shocked and distraught but her father took it in his stride, proclaiming to his family that his daughter would be a fine Imperial and that if it was what she truly wanted, she had his blessing, something the boys never had.

Childhood

Zaryna spent most of her childhood fighting with her brothers, training herself both physically and mentally to be a great warrior. Because of the Cathar genes being more dominant than the Bothan, she would often go along to the biggest religious event in Cathar history, the Blood Hunt, in which the warriors would engage in combat against entire nests of the Kiltik in order to gain honor and purge themselves of the darkness. However, most Cathar generally went on to becoming great Jedi, but the light side of the Force itself was of little interest to the feline, conflicted by her thoughts and beliefs compared to those of her mother, which led to countless arguments and Zaryna eventually being banished from the home.

Although she was forced to learn to hunt and look after herself, the years of battles against her brothers had strengthened her ability to stand up for herself. Fights often broke out when locals at the Cantina made attempts to lure the girl onto their ships with promises of freedom and galactic travel. Out of the many who tired, one succeeded, but Red was a gentleman, a genuine human who only saw a vulnerable young teenager who just needed some help. Handing her a key-card, a blaster and a bag of supplies to show his sincerity he offered her a short-term employment aboard his ship. The terms were simple - she could come and go as she pleased, she had access to the vehicles and docked shuttles, and she would get a regular pay as well as all necessary items she'd require if she ever wanted to leave.

With such an enormous level of trust bestowed upon her, Zaryna accepted his offer. Before leaving she made a quick stop, visiting her father who was working at the local pod-race track and introducing him to her new friend and employer, as well as the fact that given Zary's future choice of career as GE, he was a formerly aligned member himself. At first he was wary of Red but after a period of time he started to see that he was trustworthy and gave Zaryna his blessing. He told her that the man would always be welcome in his home, and not to worry about her mother. Freedom, he stated, was the greatest gift anyone could offer. Go, live, be free, be happy. With a final parting gift of a large sum of credits from his personal savings, he sent the girl on her way and returned to work, a proud Bothan who saw his little girl growing up into a woman.

Adulthood

Between the ages of fifteen and eighteen, she remained on the human's ship, a bond between them growing stronger by the day. Although she trusted his word, she was still unsure of his real intention. Why would he be so nice to allow a girl, a child travel with him far from home, when he seemed like the sort of man who could have anyone he wanted? He was a good-looking, happy-go-lucky, humorous sort of human, but compared to her, the human was full of stories and she felt like she had made a wise choice learning to trust him.

By eighteen she and the human had a stronger form of friendship, although she knew that it would likely never last. He was after all human and she was a feline hybrid who would be unable to give him anything more than what they already had. He reassured her time and time again that he didn't want anything, that he was content just having her. For a couple more years she accepted it but when he saw how it was affecting her over time, he told her that although he truly was okay with them not having anything more, he could see she was not. She wanted children, wanted a family, but they were not the most compatible. After a few days more, Zaryna was being walked back to her family home where Red said his farewell and departed, leaving the girl to watch as his ship took off and vanished into the atmosphere.

Life at home returned -mostly- to normal, but Zaryna knew that a part of her was now a hollow void. She missed the travelling, the action, the hunts and great battles that she and Red had shared; they'd killed Slugs and Rancors, been chased by Tauntauns and shot at by bandits, they'd laughed and shared stories of their childhood, she'd taught him about the Bothan and Cathar, and he'd taught her how to hunt. She missed him but as well as that, she missed the freedom. It was that time in her life, as she neared her twenty first birthday to decide on her future, and, after just a few days of sincerely thinking over her options she chose the Galactic Empire as her faction of choice, packing a few things and settling down for the night.

Red never truly faded from the picture; there were times since she'd arrived back home that he'd returned to Cathar Prime to visit, and she'd spend nights on the holonet talking to him. She admitted she'd missed him and even told him of her choice of joining the Empire. She'd felt better in herself knowing that she hadn't completely lost him, but there was always going to be a small part of her that wished she'd have stayed on the ship that night.

Galactic Empire

Two weeks later she was leaving Cathar Prime once again, this time aboard her RZ-68 and setting off for the heart of the galaxy to begin her adventure as an Imperial. She knew she was an alien, had studied the policies for species and restrictions, but the small-print had stated that it wasn't impossible to make it far. All she needed to do was study hard and show her worth to the Empire and she could do anything she could ever dream of, getting off to a flying start as she passed her first initial set of exams with an achievement of Graduate with Honors, the best award one could get from the Academy.
