Formation
II was subsumed into DII in late Year 6, along with Army and Navy Intelligence and parts of ISB. The effect was to centralise intelligence work to make the system more efficient. The new DII, reformed and overhauled, has benefited from a protracted recruitment campaign, recruiting from all branches of the Galactic Empire.
Applicants
DII has a notoriously strict entry process, which applicants routinely fail. Applicants have to complete an initial essay, a DII Entrance Examination, a vetting form and background vetting check (resulting in a detailed interview in some cases), and a rigorous training programme. It is one of, if not the, hardest parts of the Galactic Empire to get into. DII does however state that if a candidate possesses the basic qualities of a sharp intellect, high integrity, sound communication skills, high activity and a healthy degree of initiative, then they are unlikely to be rejected.
Structure
It is a large and sophisticated agency, though this strengthened presence has made it the target of hostile intelligence activities by a range of foreign groups and agencies. Such activities resulted, on at least one occasion, in the release of a purported list of DII Officers. DII has always denied that this list was 'fully accurate' and, according to its Director, the agency's high staff turnover means that any such list is likely to be void within a month.
Leadership
DII was turned over to Alexander Fel completely, when Zee Wolf's health worsened and was forced to take a long holiday. Fel enacted some very ambitious reorganisations to the structure and the way DII operated, inside and outside the Empire. Rumors of the resurgence of MJ12 and a new internal agency known only as Delta Source surfaced.
Eventually Alexander Fel officially resigned the post of Director Of Imperial Intelligence. He is now retired.
