Tyla Upari was born on Corellia. Her father worked in a ship yard while her mother stayed home to attend to her. They were always in dire need of credits, so her father took out a large loan to help pay for her schooling, but was never able to pay it back. When she was 5 years old, the loan sharks murdered her family and left her on the streets. For an entire two years she lived amongst other children in similar situations, always in competition with the other street children for food and shelter. One day she attempted to steal supplies from a man that would soon become her adoptive father. Instead of being angry at her, he took pity and took her under his wing. Tyla spent the next 14 years traveling all around the galaxy with her adoptive father in his freighter.
