Imperial Arts - first draft
The term Imperial art may be misleading. In a broad sense it refers to all art created by citizens of the Galactic Empire. In a narrow (and more frequently used) one, it denotes works of art that take as their subject the ideals of the Empire or the New Order.
Ch'hala tree - first draft
Originally from the jungle planet of Cularin, ch’hala tree is one of the most admired floral species of the Galaxy.
Characteristics
A typical specimen has a thin trunk and slim branches. The outer bark is transparent, while the lower layer is usually purple. The whole surface of the bark is extremely sensitive to touch. Even sound waves affect the chemical balance of the plant, evoking characteristic, colourful ripples. It is hypothesised that in its natural environment on Cularin, the roots of all ch’hala trees were connected, creating a web-like system entwining the whole biosphere.
Culture
According to unconfirmed, traditional sources, the inhabitants of Cularin had a strong, religious attitude towards the trees. Cutting down a living specimen was considered a tabboo, while a dead one was carefully divided into parts, none of which was wasted. The roots, for example, were desiccated to make highly valued tea. Due to the exquisite, artistic effect of the sound-sensitive pigmentation, ch’hala trees have long been admired by sophisticated sentient beings. Because of its rarity, and therefore price, there are only several places they may be admired. The most famous collection lines the Grand Corridor of the Imperial Palace on Coruscant, and it is rumoured that the Emperor himself has a private grove too.
