"Boyhood Dreams and Knights in Shining Armour! by Pooyakh Minxiiptrc"

(Painting by P.Minxiiptrc was his interpretation of 'The Dream' as written below. Picture composed in his last year at the Corellian Academy of The Arts & Sciences)

The Dream

The boy sat, cross-legged under the porch stairs at the front of the house. The rich, thick smell of the damp earth rising around him as the blazing Sun reaches high noon and heats the ground. He munched, absent-mindedly through his cold-cut sandwich. Mama was mad with him that day because he spilt redberry juice over her best Church dress. He looked down at his church-pants, mud and cold-cut juice spattered over them in equal measure.

A purple wash of light catches his attention, a red wash of light flashes in answer to the first. The Sun blinds him as it reflects from a flat, triangular object in the sky. He squints from the glare and can barely make out the shape of two other objects.

The 'triangle' he knows is an Imperial Star-Destroyer, he learnt that at school. He fancied that the other ships were pirates who had attacked the planet. The Imperial Star-Destroyer was defending Corellia. Blue flashes, purple flashes, red flashes, yellow balls of briiliant light. He marvelled at the display that was being put on just for him.

The pilot of the Star-Destroyer was a hero, a noble man. A knight of the Sith who stood and waved his light-sabre in challenge to the pirates. The knight's ship was totally under the knight's control, like a horse. The triangular steed, reared and stomped at the pirates. The boy watched as first one and then the other pirate ship erupted in a ball of yellow fire. Having vanquished his enemies the knight turned his steed to the planet and waved to the boy. The boy knew the knight watched over him and he felt safe.

One day, I will be that knight, the boy whispered to himself and the warm, wet earth listened.

Life for family Minxiiptrc was simple and good. They had enough money to be comfortable and could afford their own house. It seemed natural to have as many children as could fill the house!

Pooyakh groaned as he woke from his troubled sleep. Flicking a sleeping scorpion away from his head, he wipes the sand away from his face.

The star-ports on Selonia were once lush, green paradises where fruit trees grew next to refueling stations. Over time the heat-blasts of all the trader's ship's engines as they stopped en-route to a more commercially-profitable planet scorched away the planets and sterilised the ground so that only desert remained.

He hated the hot, dry, dusty days waiting for merchants to get their fat backsides moving so he could complete his trades and get back to Corellia.

Growling his irritation he started the sonic shower, waiting for the speakers to thrum up to the right setting. His only comfort on these missions was the long, black tunic that he allowed himself to wear ony here. He loved the feel of the rough cloth against his skin. Smiling he stepped out of the shower with that familiar tickling feeling on his skin. The black tunic on and a pair of comfortable sandals and he stepped out of 'Rachel.'

Hot, dry, dusty air washed over him. He stumbles backward, giving himself time to get his land-legs. His loader-droid bumped into him, R6 keen as always to get the job done! Cursing to himself Pooyakh left the droid to it's task and wandered acroos the dust-bowl of a space-port to find a bar where he could get blind drunk.

Taking a random route through the town he turnd a corner and then he saw her. Her long, lustrous, black hair. Porcelain smooth face, small, tight-lipped expression. Her eyes though, her eyes! He always remembered seeing those eyes for the first time. She looked at him with disgust on her face, then she turned away and back to him, smiling. He thought the Sun had come out from behind clouds. That smile was radiant and he loved her for it!

There was a problem though. Pooyakh's family was of the merchant caste, Seriosa's family was of the priest caste. The two castes weren't supposed to be friends and never lovers. Pooyakh wanted to marry Seriosa but she refused to consider breaking the social rule. Pooyakh sold his business, his house and the his bright pink, battered old Gozanti cruiser and bough himself a priesthood and a place in the Priest caste. Seriosa readily agreed to get married but the family had to live in poverty as one of the rules of being a priest. Life was hard for the family and Seriosa resented their struggle to survive. After giving birth to their two girls, Astor and then Illinya two years later, Seriosa ran away with a merchant from Coruscant.

Pooyakh raised the two children on his own, his priest's role offering financial support. An irony which wasn't lost on Pooyakh. When Illinya was 15 Pooyakh arranged for the two girls to become courtesans in the local Baron's court and submitted his application to the Imperial Academy.
