Torin Dietus was a Ensign in the Imperial Navy. Growing up the second son of a Coruscani trader, he was expected to pursue a life of trade or politics. Seeking adventure and with a great desire to see the galaxy, he instead chose to enroll in the imperial academy and start a highly successful career in the Imperial Navy.

Character History

Early Life

Torin grew up as the second son of a small trade family on the imperial capitol of Coruscant. His childhood was normal by the standards of the capitol. In school he was found to be intelligent and quick-witted but he lacked the necessary commitment to really shine, always more interested in girls and having fun than studying. After basic education his family and friends all expected him to study finance or politics, as was typical for young men of his background. Torin himself didn't feel much either way about his future, and started on an Interplanetary Economics class at the University of Coruscant.

After half a year at the university however, Torin began to feel trapped. The university was just the same studying, partying and social events that had occupied his entire life. Fearing that the Coruscant trade community would dominate his entire life and trap him as it did the rest of his family, Torin dropped out of the university with a sudden desire to get away from the everyday life of the capitol and see the galaxy. After leaving he went straight to an Imperial Navy recruitment stand and signed up for the Imperial Academy.

Academy

The academy was a completely new experience for the young and easygoing Dietus. Early mornings, hard discipline and strict orders were almost unknown to him, but fighting through the first weeks he found himself not only coping, but actually enjoying the change of pace. Finally finding his topics interesting and relevant to his new future, he found himself actually working hard for the first time in his life. And to his slight surprise, he found himself excelling. Under the great guidance of professor Markus Saretti he would graduate with honors from the academy, ready for the life of a crewman in the Imperial Navy.

Vakkar

The first ( recorded at least - see "The Unknown Period" ) operation of the young enlisted Dietus was the large Vakkar Operation. Arriving at the staging area for the Third Imperial Fleet only days before the start of the massive effort, Torin had little time to get to know his new home before seeing active duty. Even though he was amongst the many very unexperienced pilots in the fleet at the time, Torin's excellent academy record earned him a small squadron of TIE/scouts and a part in the early scouting missions of the planet. Later, he would partake in the construction efforts that dominated the Vakkar Operation, transporting materials and overseeing construction efforts from the Star Galleon Vakkar 6. His effective work and good results earned him several promotions in quick order. In addition, the newly arrived citizens of the cities overseen by Torin decided to honor him in their own way, naming some of the cityparts after him in some fashion or other. To this day the sparkling city of Dietusville and the not-so-sparkling region of Galleon Square Burrough, named after the Vakkar 6, stand as a small reminder of his work on the planet.

The Unknown Period

For a significant time-period after the completion of the Vakkar Operation, Dietus' record contains very little information, with weeks and months between detailed entries. Most of the information of this part of his service is diffuse at best, and many entries require high-level authorization to access.

What information can be assembled from the bits available indicates that Dietus participated in the mysterious operation Restrained Force, although the correct timeframe of this operation is discussed. Although the date, location and most details are missing from the data of Dietus' commendation from that mission, the transcript states that it was awarded to Flight Corporal Dietus. This would indicate that it occurred sometime before the Vakkar operation, as Torin had already been promoted above that level by that time.

Other information from this time indicates that Dietus was active in a number of different missions, all of which have are "classified secret" or above. Torin received a number of commendations and promotions during this time, and it is indicated that he was active throughout much of the outer rim, including the Unknown Regions. In one strange incident he's also listed as demoted to crewman for "disciplinary / protocol reasons", but another entry later the same day shows the demotion as "canceled". Not much more interesting information exists from this period of time.

The Corporate Sector

Torin returned to regular duty shortly before the Third Fleet's massive mission in the Corporate Sector. Recently nationalized after the Sector Government's numerous failures, the sector had fallen into chaos as rebellious elements sought to take control and destabilize the sector. The Third Fleet was amongst the navy forces deployed to stabilize the sector.

Now a senior pilot of the fleet, Torin was again chosen for a special assignment. As the local government failed, the mining facilities throughout the sector had stopped operating, and it was important for the development of the sector that they be restarted immediately. Torin got the assignment of supervising and coordinating this work, as well as some of the transport of the mined materials. Although it kept him from the front lines, where many of his fellow fleet members where risking their lives to further the imperial cause, the assignment was important and his good work earned him much recognition.

At first, his organizational skills in dealing with the many mines, workers and logistical issues earned him the position of Operations Adjunct of the fleet. Although mainly a paper-pushing position, the Operations Adjunct was his first look at the intricacies at Fleet Command and also a good stepping stone for a further career in the navy. Indeed it wasn't long until the Commander of the Fleet, Commodore Waterbool, was appointed to the new research center. This brought big changes in fleet command as it's members where moved about, and as the position was suddenly vacant, Torin found himself appointed Chief of Staff.

The Corporate Sector Operation also earned him several promotions, with Dietus suddenly finding himself a Command Flight Officer and leafing through the Officer School leaflets. During a large meeting celebrating the excellent results of the missions in the Corporate Sector he was also awarded the Navy Activity Medal for his work, as well as the Dostra Ribbon for the participation in that operation.

Current

With the reorganization of much of the Empire following the merger with the NIO, Dietus was transfered from the Third Fleet. His current position and whereabouts are unknown.
