Personal History
Rise to Prominence
It is unknown when Balseraph entered Imperial service. He quickly rose through the ranks of the Imperial Army, eventually becoming General and Commanding Officer of the Army. He was a man of principles and believed firmly in what the Galactic Empire stood for. This often brought him in conflict with the first Emperors, who often lacked self-control and a sense of morality.
Civil War
When Suntzu claimed the Imperial Throne after the First Imperial Civil War, in which Captain Vodo Bonias turned his fleet against Emperor Hiram Drayson and forced him to flee, Bonias was instated as Moff. During Suntzu's short reign, General Balseraph accused Moff Bonias of encouraging the new Emperor to enact policies which favored the Imperial Navy over the Army. After openly accusing Suntzu of incompetence, Balseraph was exiled. A brief conflict erupted between troops loyal to the General, and the forces of Bonias, who proved to be too powerful and defeated the exiled officer, forcing him into hiding.
He joined forces with Hiram Drayson, who had revealed himself to be a Sith Lord after his defeat at the hands of Vodo Bonias. The banished Emperor had created the Order of Darkness, an organisation consisting of his fellow Sith and Imperial officers who rejected the rule of Suntzu. The General taking his most loyal officers with him, the ranks of the Order grew once more. Around the same time, Admiral Dyvel Price and one of her officers, Evax, defected from the Empire as well, believing Spytek was weak and merely a puppet of Bonias. They stole several Star Destroyers, giving the Order the firepower it needed to pose a threat to the current ruling Emperor.
Eventually, the pressure on Suntzu become too heavy and he was forced to abdicate, leaving the Throne in the hands of Vodo Bonias. In time, the influence and power of the Order waned and many of its members left, either returning to the Empire or exploring other paths. Eventually, after the presumed death of Drayson, the Order disbanded completely. Balseraph remained in exile, and little is known about his actions after the disappearance of the Order of Darkness.
Return to the Empire
After several years spent in exile, Balseraph was allowed to return to the Empire and his rank of General was restored. He also was appointed as the commander of the Imperial Royal Guard, whose duty it was to protect Emperor Bonias at all costs. During his tenure as a Royal Guardsman, a brutal incident occurred in which a female officer, Captain Hel, was allegedly harrassed and raped by Bonias in the presence of the High Command and other Royal Guardsmen. In response, Balseraph released a public statement on Year -1 Day 184, confronting the Emperor with his deeds, denouncing him as 'rat filth' and claiming he was not worthy of being Emperor. Balseraph announced that all Guardsmen who participated in this act of questionable morality were removed from their positions.
Vodo responded publicly and tried to defuse the situation by forcing his victim to deny anything happened. He removed all who complained from their positions, and replaced them with those who had condoned his actions. Balseraph 's holotransmission failed to achieve any direct results, but it set in motion a chain of events and a public outrage that would eventually force Bonias to abdicate three months later, on Year -1 Day 271.
The further fate of General Balseraph remains unknown.
