History
Clan Vellin
Clan Vellin was an unusual tribe of Kiffar. Rather than being trained in the art of war, and tied to ancestral territories, this clan was a nomadic group of artists, musicians, and story tellers. Being native to Kiffu, they avoided much of the troubles that plagued the sister planet of Kiffex. While most Kiffar remained on their home planets, several members of the Vellin clan traveled off world to seek their fortunes in the visual and performing arts. In recent years, the clan has taken a more militant stance, after suffering several attacks at the hands of hostile tribes. It was in one of these attacks that Kurt's father, Gustaf, was killed. This prompted a young and distraught Kurt to take up martial arts, and put his musical arts aside, along with many other members of the clan. Clan Vellin was divided between maintaining the old tradition of the arts, and focusing on combative prowess for self defense, defying almost a century of peace and tradition.
A Chance Encounter
One day while on a stroll through the mountains, Kurt discovered a small Imperial recon team setting up a listening post. Before the troopers could blast him away for trespassing, a wild pack of howlrunners attacked the camp. Luckily, Kurt was carrying his trusted revolving slugthrower with him, and helped the Imperials fend off the attack. Instead of executing him on the spot, the troopers thanked him, and recommended that he put his skills to use in service of the Empire. The Imperials told Kurt of the Academy, and he agreed to sign up, as it was a better alternative to being shot.
The Imperial Academy
Kurt Vellin spent his time at the Academy being trained in the art of ground warfare, learning the basics of combat and commanding storm troopers. He graduated and was given the rank of Second Leiutenant in the Imperial Army.
