Vrai Librax is a Zeltron with a fiery wild streak, toned down recently by her enrollment into the Galactic Empire's Academy. She is a former member of the now dissolved Mercenary alliance Edge-9 but hopes to find a new family within the Empire, while working alongside an old, familiar face from her childhood.

The Past

A younger Vrai Librax

Vrai could never forget her childhood, no matter how hard she tries and to this day, the distraught of losing loved ones still haunts her and is occasionally the reason behind her reckless nature. From the age of just five years old she and her mother had been struck with one tragedy after another when Vrai lost her father in an unfortunate hyperlane incident. Vrai's mother Elskai had known the consequences of what her husband's job entailed, being the explorer that he was, but never had she been able to foresee the events that led up to the crash, which took the lives of Priirv and several crew members somewhere within the Lesser Lantillian Route, that started from Zeltros and ended in Junkfort. Vrai, at the time had been speaking with her father on the datapad and was about to wish him a good night when, from out of nowhere, the ship started going into a state of panic and someone shouted out about a collision course, and to 'brace for impact'. From there time seemed to slow down as Vrai watched her father look down at the screen with sheer horror in his eyes and as he opened his mouth to speak, there was a flash of light and flames engulfing the ship behind where the man sat before the screen went blank. Elskai rushed in to see what Vrai was yelling about and caught the tail-end of the tragedy but rather than comforting her child, she walked away and calmly closed the door to the girl's room.

It was not until some time later when Vrai emerged from her room when she and her mother were finally able to confront one another; Elskai blamed Vrai for the tragedy because she had distracted him, and Vrai blamed her mother for letting him go in the first place. Elskai then had the task of reporting to her seventeen year old twin sons about their father's death, while cradling her youngest daughter Jovfin who was just coming up to three months old. Blame would be thrown at Vrai at every given opportunity by the woman and her two sons causing Vrai to sink deeper into a state of depression. When her uncle came to visit just a few days later having received news of his brother's death, Vrai was able to confide in him about how her life was being made hell by her mother. The decision was then made to take Vrai away for a few months but her brothers weren't having none of it. They wanted to go travelling, they deserved the trip more than Vrai. If the old man wouldn't take them along as well, there was only one thing they could do. An attempted murder gone wrong, the boys tried to use a substance similar to the poison Synox, to kill Wahnuhl in order to steal his ship and do their own thing, but he had suspected something and forced both boys to drink from the glass to prove their innocence. A mouthful, they thought, wouldn't harm them but within just a few minutes both boys started to show the side effects of the poison as it entered their systems and started attacking their nervous systems. Without even a word to his late brother's wife, Wahnuhl packed a few things from Vrai's room and sent word to his ship to prepare for launch, carrying the sleeping Vrai to his quarters and leaving the twins to suffer and die. By the time Vrai woke up, they were already travelling through the hyperlane that had claimed her father's life.

Later Years

For years, Vrai travelled with her uncle and visited many places but the memory of her father's death still haunted her. She loathed and resented her brothers and mother for the way they had treated her but she blamed herself over and over about his death, questioning whether it really was her fault because she had chosen to communicate with him on a nightly basis while he was on his long trips away. It got to the point where she was starting to lose her mind, snapping at her uncle, getting a beating for misbehaving, and even being shut within the airlock for several hours until she had learned her lesson. One wrong move, he'd said, and the doors would be open and she would be blasted into space. The discipline seemed to work though because eventually Vrai knuckled down with her work and learned the basics about the mechanics of the ship that had been her home for most of her life. She could check a number of things easily and tinkered about with electronics on an almost daily basis. Something went wrong, no problem. Vrai was there and resolving the issue. A screen not working, still not an issue. Loose connections were normally the case on this older model but most of the time the young Zeltron found the issue and sorted it within a few hours at most. It all depended on the severity of the issue and what parts were required to fix it. It was through this work that Vrai met and fell in love with another Zeltron, Kolanto Ventbar, who was some form of engineer on the shuttle. Although he and Vrai were very much besotted with one another and had a small wedding to strengthen their bond as youngsters, their work was more important than their relationship and they spent more time apart than they did together.

But even with work and her husband keeping her busy, Vrai often found herself drifting back to the day she had watched her father take his last breath, so it was quite fortunate for her when her uncle introduced Vrai to a Togruta girl by the name of Farra Lin-Pa. While she was not a Zeltron like Vrai, she did however share a few common interests like stars, planets and electronics and they were of a similar age, with Farra being just four years older than Vrai at the time. Farra, Vrai learned, was being cared for by the ship's General as part of a training course to prepare her for her future. She also discovered that Farra had already decided on her future career, wanting to serve the Galactic Empire which, at the time, Vrai knew very little about but from the stories that Farra told her, she felt as though she knew where her own journey would lead her, much to Kolanto's dismay.

There were times when the ship would return back to the Hapes Cluster where the Lin-Pa family spent days at a time staying with a reputable woman and her daughter. While the Yen family were not of nobility, they had a beautiful home and would host parties for high class ranking families, not only of general wealth but of military standards. Families much like that of Lin-Pa that were low profile to the public and were only known to close associates. In this day and age, few Hapan families still had any real trust for outsiders after the destruction of the Lorell Raiders years before, the memories of which still haunted them. In the short time that she had spent with the Hapan Maia, whom Farra had already met before, and her family, Vrai learned a lot more than she might have ever done in her life; Maia had a heart of gold, she was sincere and friendly, always smiling and never complaining. Somehow between the trio, they inspired one another and focused only on the positive side of things, but their friendship was soon to come to an end none of them expected.

Farra's application had been accepted into the Empire, and the trio would become a duo in just a short space of time; the shuttle they were on would take Farra to the nearest port where she would then be taken by another shuttle into Empire territory to begin her life as a recruit. The farewell was heartfelt and emotional but Farra had promised the girls that when it came to their own choice, she would be there waiting to welcome them with open arms at the academy gates, but within just a matter of weeks contact ceased completely. Something had happened to Farra and neither girls knew what, only having the last message she had sent them to go by; 'Main basic training is over now. About to head out into orbit. Looking forward to it. This is the life you girls will love...'

As far as Vrai was concerned, the Empire had failed to keep her safe. Something had happened to Farra and it caused Vrai to sink into a deep form of depression, wanting nothing more than to destroy whoever was to blame for the girl's death. Maia on the other hand tried to convince Vrai that there was likely an explanation to the incident or that Farra was probably just busy, and that the only way they would truly find out was to take the journey into the Empire themselves. Maia applied but Vrai had other ideas...

An Innocent Criminal?

Maia was probably more shocked by the fact that Vrai disappeared in an escape pod only hours later, and that Vrai's uncle held little concern over her well-being, and when she was dropped off back in Hapan again, Maia knew she needed to focus on her own ideal investigation into the disappearance of Farra. Day and night, Maia kept herself secluded in her room while searching the holonet for answers, but each search came back with very few results. The Zeltron on the other hand had been found by a passing ship in the escape pod and taken aboard where she would soon become a member of a small mercenary faction. Her time with them was however spent hunting creatures in the Bright Jewel System, allowing Vrai time to train herself to use an AXM-50 and distancing herself from most of the faction and the reality of why she was so determined to be a fighter.

After just a few months however the ship she had been assigned to malfunctioned and she was left floating around in the atmosphere above the planet she'd been hunting on. Word soon reached her that the faction leader had sent out a virus to all assigned vessels and completely dissolved the Faction. Vrai was essentially a sitting duck with nobody to turn to, except Maia. Seeing the friendly face appear on the screen in front of her, Vrai explained her situation and begged her oldest friend for help. The Hapan explained to the Zeltron that her now former faction were not in highest favors with the Empire but she would do what she could to bring the girl to the city where she would be well looked after and given a new chance to redeem herself, given that her background checks would show no criminal activity. As Maia stated, and so rightly so; a faction does not make an individual a criminal unless of course said individual decided to partake in activity of a criminal kind which she believed wholly that Vrai had not.

A New Beginning

At first Vrai thought that she would end up getting some rest, having a decent meal, get some fresh clothing and then be sent on her way. After all, she was only a Zeltron as far as she was concerned and seeing how respectable many of the Imperials looked, she felt a little out of place. Her former partner in her old faction had been a Kaleesh who Vrai had grown quite fond of, and she had learned a great number of things about hunting from him. How to position herself, how to fire at the correct range, how not to end up on her backside from recoil...

But the Empire was different; the Imperials were welcoming, there were many different races, and the atmosphere as a whole was like...family. Vrai was able to meet up with Maia for a short time before the Hapan had to return to work but somehow, unknowingly, Maia Yen had convinced Vrai that if she really wanted to learn the reason behind Farra Lin-Pa's disappearance, she would first have to gain the trust of the Empire, which meant letting go of past grudges and stepping into the shoes of an Imperial, which is exactly what Vrai did. Graduating just weeks later she had hoped to step into the ranks of the Imperial Navy but things were a little more complicated than that; Vrai was a Zeltron, a Class B species, which meant that until she could prove herself enough to the Throne, she would have two choices of branch. Regional Government and MInd. Naturally Vrai chose to join Regional Government and now hopes that one day she will not only find the answers she was looking for, but also finding who she truly wanted to be.
