Imperial News Grid - "Rescue underway as collapse traps miners"

Posted by: Mordus Nordstroem on Year 24 Day 98

CH`HODOS (Industry) – Citizens on the planet of Ch`hodos were hit by a tragedy earlier today as a mine collapse left many miners trapped deep below the surface. The mine, located on the outskirts of the capital city, Charr, was being operated by a team of Human and alien miners when the collapse occurred. The exact cause of the incident is still unknown and an investigation is underway led by the Ministry of Interior’s Bureau for Mine Incidents.

Initial reports state that the mine was situated over a valuable rockivory deposit. Rockivory, a dense, white mineral, is a key component of antigrav units and the Ch`hodos mine is a large contributor to the many production projects around the Sith Worlds Oversector. Reports from LIN-series Miner droids alerted the miners to a potential mine collapse moments before several collapses were reported at surface control centres.

Imperial authorities immediately sprang into action and rescue efforts are underway to save the trapped miners. According to the latest reports, at least 65 Human miners are believed to be trapped in the mine, along with several mining teams consisting of Class C citizens are known to be isolated in deep core veins. Rescue teams from the Imperial Mining Corporation are currently working tirelessly to reach the miners and provide them with medical assistance and supplies.

"The galaxy is no stranger to mining accidents and the Empire has some of the most stringent safety standards in known space. Mining Corporation specialists are well equipped to provide a response, but the fact that several Class C citizens are among the trapped miners has added a unique dimension to the rescue efforts," stated Master Engineer Gil Madar, a representative from the Imperial Mining Corporation. "We must consider the physiological differences that are present amongst those trapped. Different species will be facing different predicaments in the depths of these mines. As we prepare to embark on our rescue attempts, we will have to consider these challenges and how to best overcome them.

"Imperial Mining Corporation leaders have expressed their deep concern for the trapped miners and have assured their families and loved ones that every effort will be made to rescue them safely. The Empire's emergency services are working closely with the mine operators to carry out a safe and successful rescue mission.

"The Empire has once again shown its resilience in the face of adversity and its unwavering commitment to the safety of all its citizens, Human and alien alike," Master Engineer Madar noted, adding "Our thoughts are with the trapped miners and their families at this difficult time. We will continue to provide updates as they become available."
