About
The Naval Intelligence Agency was a multi-purpose agency that not only dealt with external intel but internal security as well. The Commanding Officer of this specialized unit was Commodore Walter Boole and the Executive Officer was Major Kex, all other agents were and still are classified even though the branch is now defunct because of the strong return of the ISB and strengthening of Imperial Intelligence. NIA ran many reconnaissance campaigns to advance the military and political goals of the Emperor
Recruitment
NIA's recruitment policy was similar to COMPNOR's in that it wanted loyal and zealous imperials with an eye for illegal activity. It also was for naval personnel only and required a "careful mouthed" individual.
Hierarchy
The NIA hierarchy was a mix from military and II branches and was a simple three-fold chain-of-command
- Commanding Officer
- Executive Officer
- Agent
CO/XO Duties
- Manage Agents
- Train Agents
Agent Duties
- Monitor all forms of imperial communications
- Report all suspicious activity
- Assist in enemy system reconnaissance
NIA vs. ISB
The two main differences between the NIA and the ISB are the fact that NIA dealt with intelligence (reconnaissance campaigns, gathering intelligence), and that it's officers and agents were undercover unlike the ISB whos agents are not undercover. Now there was a bad side to having all NIA agents undercover, which was that they could not publicly exercise their authority. With ISB any of their agents can directly address you and exert authority therefore. NIA agents could not directly address and exert authority publicly, but had to report any violations to their CO and the CO had to go through "proper" channels to address issues. This cut-down NIA's efficiency a lot in internal security. That being said it was well adept in it's other field of intelligence. The NIA ran numerous reconnaissance and counter-intelligence campaigns.
Reform
In Year 9 the Naval Intelligence Agency made a reform by including the army branch, appointing Major Kex as XO and renaming it to Military Intelligence Agency (MIA). Shortly after MIA became defunct with former Regent Goth placing internal security and intelligence under COMPNOR. MIA never had a chance to re-surface following the GE/NIO merger and the ISB/II re-integration back into the Empire
