CORUSCANT (GNS) — Emotions were high for the recent christening of the Executor, the most recent Super Star Destroyer to enter Imperial service. Before an assembly of galactic and local dignitaries, military personnel and shipwright laborers, Executor Thomas Cherokee and Admiral Angelus Goth together broke the traditional bottle of wine over the bow of the ship, formally commissioning the vessel into the Naval registry.
"Today marks a glorious day, for the Navy and the Empire entire," said Executor Cherokee. "This ship is a symbol of the Empire's rise. Now more than ever, the Empire is great and indefatigable. Through the Executor and its successors, we shall continue to bring peace and stability where it is needed. Let this ship be a sign of things to come." Admiral Goth expressed similar sentiments, declaring "The Imperial Navy is stronger than it has ever been. With the addition of the Executor and like ships, and the strength of the men and women of the fleets, the citizens of the Empire shall know only safety, and the enemies of the Empire shall know only fear."
Shortly after the ceremony, Admiral Goth took command for the Executor's maiden voyage, a routine patrol of the system, before returning in preparation for permanent deployment.
The 'Executor' is the fourth known Super Star Destroyer in the possession of the Imperial Navy, with several dozen under construction by the Empire and its allies in shipyard networks across the galaxy. No less than four are visible in the shipyards of Coruscant, where they are awe of millions of visitors to the capital.
With the recent collapse of resistance towards Imperial Union forces on many fronts, and activities largely reduced to small skirmishes, it has been many a year since the appearance of a Super Star Destroyer on the line has turned the tide of battle. However, estimates by military planners see the Super Star Destroyer as possessing no less than three times the capacity of the Mon Calamari-designed rebel flagship 'Home One', itself recognized as one of the most heavily equipped warships currently in service. Nonetheless, Navy officers at all ranks have hailed the completion of an additional Super Star Destroyer, welcoming this latest boost of the Imperial Navy's already formidable capacity for war.
