Rann Van is a retired Commander of the Imperial Navy. Rann was born on the planet of Corellia but met a early heart-wrenching loss when his parents died in a rebel raid on his home town on the outskirts of Corona. It was on Corellia that he spent much of his early life until finally getting enough money to travel to Coruscant to start a career and family. After getting married, and having a troubled marrige at that, he got divorced and lost his business working as a Shuttle distributor. It wasn't until after that did he enroll in the Imperial Academy in which he graduated to serve in the Galactic Empire in the Imperial Navy as the past Fleet Commanding Officer of the 5th Imperial Fleet.

Character History

Early Years

As a small child, Rann grew up quietly. His mother and father raised him well, as his family were farmers and it was Rann's supposed destiny to continue their legacy. However, fate took a unexpected turn against Rann when he was 5. Before he was about to start school, a rebel force believed the small town on the outskirts of Corona to be in league with the Imperial forces. Uncertain, they took ahold of their urges and attacked the village killing all of Rann's family and most of the town. Rann escaped with his brother David. They ran away from the town, finding them selves in Coronet, and stowed away in a shuttle bringing them to the Tatooine city Mos Eisly. Both of them were able to find a hut for sale that they broke into to sleep in and were able to establish a meager living working in the starport as loaders and haulers. He met his first mentor, Robertin Kasen who taught him how to read, and all the skills he would of learned at school. Over the years, David became 16 while Rann turned 10, and David pursued his hopes of becoming an Imperial. Rann still too young to understand, continued work in the Starport until his mentor left him to pursue his own career.

His Wandering Years

Alone, Rann wandered Tatooine until he was caught in a sandstorm. Nearly losing his life, he took refuge in an old tent of some sort finding it to be a tuskan raider hut, he was forced to fight for his life. In the fight, Rann was nearly killed but managed to escape before nearing death. Reaching the near city of Mos Espa, he took refuge again and waited out the years until he was 18, working various jobs for various people doing jobs to stay off the radar. He ended up on Coruscant after earning enough pay to buy a shuttle ride there. As his adulthood progressed, Rann worked for a private company in the city working as a shuttle pilot due to his upbringing in a starport.

His Business, Divorce, and Service

When he turned 27, he fell in love with a Coruscani woman who he met on the job. He was shuttling passengers from the Imperial Palace to a city south of the capital, and she had fainted on board due to a lightheaded feeling she got while flying. Rann helped her and they dated thereafter. After a year, they got married and settled down together. But things were meant to last. She didn't share the love of flying Rann had, and all those late shuttle runs and time away from the home left her lonely and deprived. One night when Rann returned home he caught her cheating with another man, and the divorce preceedings followed thereafter. The case split their money, and due to a lack of business, Rann had to close down his enterprise, and didn't know what to do. He was 30 now, and was getting older. He had never thought military, but knew it would get him out of the gutter for a while. So he made his way to the nearest Navy recruiter and he was enlisted into the Imperial Ranks.

Imperial Service

His rise was slow, but Rann made his way through the ranks serving under a number of Commanders, who didn't really teach him anything of note. It wasn't until he was employed under the service of Commander Diggins that he learned anything. He was taught martial arts, tatics, everything. Him being an ex-pirate he knew a lot of things that most others did not. Rann was like a son to him, and he was like a father to Rann. And both were sad when Diggins left for his own career in TSI. This left Rann serving Lieutenant Commander Igneus Esh, where he had his first Command position as XO until Rann had to take a shore leave to tend to his brother who was recently killed by Imperials for treason. When he returned, he was reduced to CoS, and Rann encountered slight depression until his friend pulled him out of the gutter. Taking the opportunity given to him soon thereafter, Commodore Assam put him as XO of a brand new fleet. And as time went on Assam became his CO while the old one went on to other career opportunites. While this new opportunity for Rann had him learning new aggressive tatics and the arts of warfare. Rann then neared his time to become FCO himself, and has since then achieved that goal after 2 and a half years in the Empire....
