[hide]Early Life
Marc Farstan was born on Hapes, the youngest of three children in a wealthy family of privilege. His father was a well-established financier with major investments in the mining industry, while his mother was a popular socialite welcome within many high society circles.
A child of the Hapan upper-middle-class aristocracy, Marc enjoyed an elite education, complete with private tutors, etiquette training, and an emphasis on refinement. Like many of his peers, Marc was instructed on fencing, classical dance, and piloting from a young age - each considered essential skills for young men of status. Among his many studies, Marc displayed an early talent for piloting, excelling in both atmospheric and spaceflight simulations.
However, his life of comfort ended abruptly in his early teenage years when a New Republic-aligned group launched a terrorist attack on local mining facilities, which his father’s company was significantly invested in. The attack, justified as “a strike against the oppression of the Imperial Union”, obliterated his family's financial standing.
With their wealth erased in an instant, the family found itself in a rapid downward spiral. His father, unable to face the financial ruin and public humiliation, abandoned them. The circumstances of his disappearance became the subject of widespread gossip and speculation, with rumors ranging from allegations of embezzlement to personal betrayal.
Struggling against both the stigma of their fall from grace and the harsh realities of poverty, the remaining Farstans relocated to Coruscant, seeking a fresh start in the Imperial capital.
Civilian Life
Following the family's relocation to Coruscant, the Farstan’s were thrust into a life far removed from the privilege of their Hapan upbringing. The once-refined existence of tutors, etiquette lessons, and high-society galas was replaced by the harsh realities of survival in the galactic capital. With the family's wealth gone and their father vanished, Marc's older brothers took on work as freighter pilots, hauling cargo across the galaxy to keep the family afloat. Though still young, Marc quickly realized that he, too, would have to contribute.
Seeking employment, he found work with a Coruscant-based wine importer and exporter, a company specializing in the movement of high-end vintages between the Core Worlds and wealthier Mid Rim markets. At first, he was given the lowly job of freighter pilot, tasked with ferrying shipments of premium wines across the hyperspace lanes. Over time, his responsibilities expanded. Recognizing his aptitude for numbers and logistics, his employers entrusted him with elements of the company's bookkeeping. He quickly learned the intricacies of commercial shipping: navigating customs regulations, optimizing trade routes, and balancing financial ledgers.
Just as Marc had begun to build a stable life for himself, his mother suddenly fell ill and passed, a devastating blow that shattered what remained of the family. His brothers, no longer bound to Coruscant, moved to different corners of the galaxy, leaving Marc truly alone for the first time in his life.
It was in this moment—tired of instability, struggling to stay afloat, and spurred by a simmering resentment toward the New Republic—that Marc made a fateful decision. Civilian life, with its constant uncertainty and fragile security, was no longer enough. He wanted structure. He wanted purpose.
With nothing left tying him to Coruscant, Marc submitted his application to the Imperial Academy, receiving his acceptance a few short weeks later.

Imperial Academy
Upon his acceptance into the Imperial Academy, Recruit Farstan distinguished himself as a talented and disciplined cadet. His experience as a freighter pilot allowed him to excel in flight exercises, while his background in business and logistics gave him an edge in fleet management and strategy. Though he initially struggled with marksmanship and physical training, Marc grew increasingly competent through perseverance and seeking additional help from his Training Officer.
Graduating with Honors and with his Training Officer’s endorsement, Marc was commissioned into the Imperial Navy as a Lieutenant (O-3) and was dispatched to the 8th Assault Group, headquartered in Corellia. Upon arrival in Corellia, Marc was assigned to the Group’s Capital Command, assuming command of an Imperial frigate. Soon after, Marc met then-Lieutenant Commander Cihl Rezik, a man who was to be his commanding officer and would become a close friend and mentor.
Farstan’s early Navy career saw him rise through the ranks with rapid efficiency. After serving with distinction in the 8th Assault Group and performing well in the unit’s peacekeeping and anti-piracy operations, Marc was appointed as Group Executive Officer. Seeking to develop his analytical and observational skills, Farstan applied for and was accepted into the Department of Military Intelligence as the Intelligence Liaison for the Ruby Region. In his duties as Liaison, Marc analyzed scouting reports, coordinated between Imperial Intelligence and local military and government commanders, and to develop cross-branch coordination skills.
After serving in his dual role capacity, and following his mentor’s appointment to 3rd Fleet Command, Marc was selected as Interim Commanding Officer of the 8th Assault Group, a position he held for one year before receiving his first official fleet command: 1st Fleet Commanding Officer. An appointment that would bring Marc back to his adoptive home for the first time in years.
Marc’s rise in the Imperial Navy had been rapid and dizzying. Though he loved the Navy and the officers under his command, Marc began to feel a loss of purpose. Recognizing the impact that this uncertainty was having on his command, Farstan made the rare decision to resign his command of the 1st Imperial Fleet and request a transfer to the Imperial Army. After waiting a short time, word came from Military Command, along with a personal note from his old mentor. His request had been approved, but Lord Admiral Rezik admonished him not to treat this change as the end - rather to embrace it as a new beginning.
Imperial Army
Commissioned as a Colonel (O-6) in 3rd Imperial Legion, Marc struggled with the transition from the bridge of a Super Star Destroyer to the mud of a forward operating base. To make matters worse, his marksmanship had hardly improved since his time in the Imperial Academy. However, thanks to the guidance of his Non-Commissioned Officers and commanding officer, General Isolder von Alard, Colonel Farstan slowly developed his abilities as an Infantry Commander. After proving his abilities in ground warfare, urban combat, and planetary operations, Marc was soon appointed as commanding officer of the 3rd Imperial Legion. Thanks to his Naval and Army experience, Marc demonstrated his ability to seamlessly integrate fleet and ground operations, earning distinction from his superiors. Farstan’s growing reputation led to his appointment as Emerald Task Force Commanding Officer overseeing all Military Operations in the Emerald Region.
Chairman of the Military Council
Farstan’s career reached its peak when Emperor Jai I appointed him as Supreme Commander of the Imperial Military. As Supreme Commander, he would hold absolute authority over all branches of the Imperial Armed Forces, overseeing strategic operations and dictating military policy. However, the role was short-lived as Marc declared the dissolution of the position and formation of the Imperial Military Council as his first official act as Supreme Commander. With the restructuring of military leadership, Marc was appointed as Chairman of the Imperial Military Council - tasked with coordinating Military operations across the Galaxy, developing and administering Military policy, and bringing the armed forces to a state of unprecedented operational readiness.
As Chairman of the Military Council, Marc was also appointed to Imperial High Command and named to Emperor Jai I’s Ruling Council, roles that he continues to fulfil to this day.
