The predecessor of the fearsome Imperial-class, the Victory-class Star Destroyer is capable of fulfilling multiple combat roles. The unique, dagger-shaped design of the Star Destroyer allows the Victory-class to concentrate nearly all of it's weapons on its front firing arc. This ingenious design has since been copied in every subsequent design of the Star Destroyer by the Empire. While only little more than half the size of the Imperial-class, the Victory-class Star Destroyer mounts 120 turbolaser batteries and 20 proton torpedo launchers, giving it more offensive punch than its larger cousin.

The standard Imperial border patrol for key systems, the Carrack cruiser is more suited to anti fighter/freighter defense and is equipped to disable, capture and board ships rather than destroy them. Requiring only one pilot to function it has become a standard for small capital ships to follow after. The standard crew for this vessel is approximately 50, eight of whom are bridge crew (two pilots, a Stats Officer, two Gunnery Officers, a Commander, a Shield Officer and a Scanner Officer).

TIE-pilots are equipped with black uniforms, a black helmet, and a life support chest piece with breather tubes to enable the pilot to breathe in the cockpit's vacuum. Reminiscent of the helmet worn with stormtrooper armor, breather tubes extend from the helmet to the front of the chest plate, where controls for the suit's portable life support system are located. The actual supply of oxygen was built into the rectangular back plate of the armor.

Astromech droids are used by the 9if for interstellar starships. Astromechs are mobile multi-role droids capable of hyperspace navigation, systems monitoring/control, damage repair, and data storage. These droids have extensive databases of stellar systems and hyperspatial coordinates, necessary for faster-than-light travel. Astromech droids are used in certain starfighter  models, typically those with hyperdrives. They serve a similar, though expanded, role—supplementing the ship's onboard computer systems and aiding the pilot in navigation, repair, and interfacing. More advanced astromech models can often pilot a small craft by themselves, blurring the line between an astromech droid and a pilot droid. Some astromechs, like members of the R2 series, arre equipped with numerous features that expanded their functionality beyond navigation and repair, allowing them to become useful in almost any situation. In addition to an astromech's factory-installed functionality, many of these droids were customizable—allowing upgrades to sensors, tools, software, and even basic hardware.

Fleet History

Fleet Creation

The Ninth Imperial Fleet was officially formed on Y 10 D 165 (May 17, 2009) and is the result of the great GE-NIO Merger. It is comprised of both former NIO personnel as well as long serving naval soldiers from the GE. After just a little over 2 months the unit successfully completed it's first two missions while working on it's first major operation to strengthen the Imperial presence it it's assigned sector.

CAPTAIN Mark "Coolios" Inkster

markinkster.jpg

Born and raised on Corellia, he started his career in the New Imperial Order, where he was assigned to the New Imperial Navy after graduating from the Academy. He was put into the Vindication Battlegroup, which later evolved into the NIO version of the 2IF. Six Months later he joined COMPNOR, where he served both as Academy Instructor and as recruiter for the Centre for Recruitment. Through hard work he advanced through the ranks and finally made it to XO of the 2IF. Soon after he took up a full time position as Academy Commandant and Director of the Imperial Centre for Recruitment and served some time in those functions. He later returned to the Navy and was put in command of the main logistics fleet of the NIO: The 3IF. Only after the NIO Navy underwent a restructure he found himself in charge of the NIO Navy Starfighter Corps where he served until the great GE-NIO Merger. After being reincorporated into the Galactic Empire Inkster was given the rank of Captain and was put in command of the newly formed Ninth Imperial Fleet. There he served with success from Year 10 Day 165 to Year 10 Day 331. He was well liked by all fleet members for his easy way with people and many mourn his going to the reserves and his subsequent replacement. He will, forever, be the first commander of the Ninth Imperial Fleet.

Imperial Fleet Duties

Rather than outline specific roles for the 9if, Imperial High Command have lent flexibility to the Fleet across the Bothan sector in order that naval resources can be assigned as needed and shaped for mission requirements. The 9if holds and maintains space-superiority within the Bothan sector. The 9if's in-built flexibility allows for both focused capital ship firepower and Tie-fighter superiority which is reflected in the design of their starships, the formation of their naval units and the overall organization of the 9if.

The responsibilities of the 9th Imperial Navy included, but are not limited to, defending Imperial citizens from space-based threats such as pirates, smugglers, and other armed governments, enforcing Imperial Will, and overseeing commerce through customs and blockade operations within Bothan Space. The 9if also perform orbital bombardments, transport major ground force deployments, and support them with space and aerial support.

The Ships, Crew & Droids In Use By The 9if

The Ships

The Imperial " Imperator" Class Star-Destroyer(ISD)

isd.jpg

Possibly the most recognizable symbol of the 9if's presence in Bothan space is the Imperial-class Star Destroyer. Recognisable by it's arrow-head shape the ISD is famous for their size and armament. The ISD's also contribute to the 9if as logistics vessels and Tie-fighter carriers.

With a full compliment of fighters and ground assault troops, the Imperator-Class Star Destroyer has a crew of thousands and is fully capable of operating independent of fleet support craft for extended periods. Often left behind as a peace-keeping and garrison ship, the Imperator-Class Star-Destroyer is able to strike at incoming vessels with overwhelming firepower.

The Tie- series of Fighters

Tie-Scout

tie-scout.png

The TIE Scout is almost unheard of, barely more than a rumor outside of military circles. Fitted with a hyper-drive motivator in order to increase range and allow for reconnaissance of potentially dangerous reions of space where the 9if scouts are the 9if Navy is not far behind.

Tie- Scout Schematic

tiescout-2.jpg

Tie- Ln The (Tie-fighter)

tie-ln.jpg

TIE fighters are named after their unique propulsion system, the Twin Ion Engine. Ionized gasses are accelerated to a fraction of lightspeed in microparticle accelerators. The fast-moving particles are then emitted from the rear vents to move the fighter forward. Pilots can direct the ion particles in any desired direction making the craft highly manoeuvrable. The relatively low mass of the ship propelled by the twin ion engine design achieves great speed and maneuverability, making it faster than most commercially available spacecraft. The exceptional manoeuvrability allows TIE pilots to use sudden evasion maneuvers and rapid course changes. Easily recognized by their hexagonal solar power panels, the TIE-Ln model has become the standard support fighter for the Imperial Navy. It uses a separate power generator for its laser cannons. Next to the Imperial Stormtrooper and The Imperial Star-Destroyer, the TIE fighter is one of the symbols of the might and omnipresence of the Galactic Empire.

Tie- Ln The (Tie-fighter) Schematic

TIEfighter_egvv-1.jpg

Tie-Interceptor

Tie-interceptorr.jpg

The newer features added to this model included: improved Twin Ion Engines, more efficient power plant, arrow shaped solar panels (giving the pilot a better lateral view compared to the TIE Fighter), improved fire power and a more advanced avionics and targeting computer system. Although lacking armor, the Interceptor relies on one more characteristic to avoid enemy fire other than it's speed: the greatly improved maneuverability.

Tie-Interceptor Schematic

tieint-eg1-3.gif

Tie-Bomber

tie-bomber.jpg

Using the same Twin Ion Engine propulsion system as other models of this series, the TIE bomber carries high-yield proton bombs. The bombs are armed only when near the designated target. More heavily armored than the standard TIE fighter, the TIE bomber has the forward firing laser system.

Other Vessels in Use by The 9th Imperial Navy

Cygnus class Gunboat

gunboat.jpg

Equipped with two heavy laser cannons beneath the cockpit, two ion cannons above, and a warhead launcher mounted on either side, the Gunboat can adapt to any given situation; be it border control, dogfighting, or even taking on a capital ship. The heavy armour and deflector shields allow the craft to survive a lot of punishment before needing repairs. The inclusion of a hyperdrive motivator allows the fighter to act as an advanced guard for entry into enemy systems. Recognised for it's similarity to the Lambda-class shuttle in appearance, the Cygnus-class gunboat is fast becoming a symbol of the presence of the 9if within the Bothan sector.

Space-Trooper Armour

space-trooperarmour.jpg

Spacetrooper armour functions as a small personal attack craft. The Zero-G Assault suit is designed to interface with standard stormtrooper armour. Inside the cabin, the soldier has access to an array of controls that range from targeting and sensor arrays to life support and navigation as well as a heavy laser and a concussion missile launcher. This power armour provides environmental protection against the vacuum of space and a repulsorlift propulsion unit that enables the soldier to move and fight in space for extended periods.

The primary function of the two-meter tall spacetrooper armour involves capturing enemy vessels intact and containing rebellious crews. A spacetrooper's equipment usually consists of laser cutters and power vibro-saws for quick penetration into a vessel's hull and magnetic couplers that attach to any metallic surface. Thus, a platoon of spacetrooper soldiers can overtake a smaller capital ship with a determined assault.

The Crew

Imperial Gunner

Deathstar_gunner.jpg

Imperial gunners are tasked to use their skills with weapons to handle the powerful turbolasers and ion cannons of Imperial vessels, such as Star Destroyers. The most distinguishing part of the gunners was their large black helmets with a slit-like visor, designed to protect their eyes from the bright flashes of light from turbolaser and superlaser fire.

Imperial Marines

Imperial_marine.jpg

The Imperial Marines are a specialized branch of the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps. They are Imperial heavy-weapons specialists used by the Galactic Empire to defend capital ships such as Imperial-class Star Destroyers. They are also used to sabotage or capture Rebel capital ships after being ferried over to them during a space battle. They carried an E-11 blaster rifle, a MiniMag PTL missile launcher, and four thermal detonators as standard equipment.

Imperial Navy crewman

800px-NavyCrewmen.jpg

The Imperial Navy crewmen are the heart of the Imperial Navy. Imperial citizens are trained at the Imperial Academy to be starship pilots, technicians, and specialists. These peopl operate helms, repair vessels and support the operations of their superior officers.

Imperial Navy troopers

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/2743/dsc00

Imperial Navy troopers are Galactic Empire soldiers who are assigned by the Imperial Navy as part of the 9if's Regiments to serve as guards and soldiers onboard it's many Star Destroyers and other installations. These troopers back up Stormtroopers and provide the Imperial Navy with a corps of troops separate from the Imperial Army and the Stormtrooper Corps for protection of their ships. Besides serving the Galactic Empire as soldiers and security guards, they handle hangar control traffic, monitor sensor arrays, and perform various other duties.

Imperial Navy commando

150px-ImperialNavyCommando_TFU_W-1.jpg

Navy commandos are lightly armored soldiers trained for patrol, guard and monitor duty. Squads consisted of five to seven commandos and a sergeant, and sometimes an officer or a medic.

Depending on their rank, mission, profile, and training protocol, an Imperial Navy commando primarily wields the E-11 blaster rifle( standard issue for Imperial Troopers). Often thermal detonators are issued as part of their equipment, as well as comlink antennae. Some Navy trooper sergeants carry laser-guided sniper rifles. Squad sergeants often were orange shoulder pauldrons and multi-purpose backpacks as well as their specialized helmets.

Reminiscent of the helmet worn with stormtrooper armor, breather tubes extend from the helmet to the front of the chest plate, where controls for the suit's portable life support system are located. The actual supply of oxygen was built into the rectangular back plate of the armor.
