The 3rd Imperial Fleet started out as one part of the European Division, created by Colonel Rahvin and Major Veynom with the goal of enacting round-a-clock war principles and soon became an Elite Naval force which it continues to be to this day. The 3rd is one of the oldest Naval units in the Empire, although it has been disbanded and reorganised many times. The 3rd Fleet is now garrisoned in the Fakir Sector, a sector it has helped to greatly develope.

3rd Fleet Commanders

Gorn Veynom

Gorn Veynom was the co-founder and first CO of the 3rd Fleet. When the European Division split into army and navy sections Major Veynom became Commander Veynom and took command of the new 3rd fleet. It quickly grew and became the “Third Naval Recon & Strike Fleet” simply known as Third Recon. Veynom was promoted to the rank of Commodore. The Fleet XO was Commander Fox “Spookie” Spookers, he was in charge of the Escort and Supplies division.

A number of well known officers joined the 3rd as it grew and many new recruits flocked to join what was quickly becoming the Elite fleet of the Imperial Navy. Lt. Commander Gunther von Esling joined the Fleet from Nightmare Squadron and while serving with the 3rd became a Captain.

Lt. Ptjedi was the leader of Escort company, Commander Wicket was leader of Assault Company. Lt. Eole also served with the 3rd, reaching the rank of Captain. A young Lt. Jessy James became the leader of the 3rd Elite fighter squadron, Armageddon Squadron, known to be the most ruthless in the Navy.

Later Spookers would accused Commodore Veynom of treason and plotting to overthrow the Emperor; however, soon after Veynom is cleared by Emperor Spytek and it is Spookers who turns traitor when he leaves the 3rd Fleet.

The 3rd was nominated by the Emperor as the most efficient military unit in the Empire and Veynom was given a commendation for battle efficiency. However, soon after this strategy changed and the fleet was disbanded to make way for the 20th and 21st sector fleets which together composed the 2nd Fleet. There are a number of Third Fleet pilots that are now legends of the Empire.

Arkhan Gambit

Commander Gambit took command of the 3rd Fleet in it's current form following the Navy reform that lead to numerous changes to the existing fleets. Most of the fleet was made up of Flight Group Two from the 1st Imperial Fleet. The rest of the fleet was composed of new recruits and members of the old 3rd fleet Fleet. Lt. Commander Bourget was his XO and LTjg. Anu Skycreaper became CoS.

Following the reform, the 3rd was one of the fastest fleets to get organized and under way. It's original assignment was to be the Coruscant Defense Fleet and it was to be based at Coruscant, however the fleets first mission was to change all that. The 3rd Fleet was to recon the Fakir system in preparations for a large planetary development there. After the recon mission Commander Bourget transferred to the Army and became a Major. Anu Skycreaper moved up to FXO and became a LTCMDR. with Ensign Arya Downing given the duty of CoS.

With the recon mission being such a good success the 3rd was assigned to handle the planetary development of Vakkar in the Vakkar System. However, shortly into the project Captain Gambit was replaced by Commander Walter Boole. Captain Gambit remained with the fleet for a short while longer before eventually transferring from the Navy to Government.

Missions and Operations

Calaron Holdout

While on a training exercise on Dathomir the Ottega system was assaulted by rebel forces that had declared themselves the New Republic. This newly formed government was hitting Imperial systems in an effort to gain strength. One of the first to be struck was the Calaron Sector. With the 3rd fleet being so close they were the first units to arrive. The 3rd Fleet was asked to hold the front line until reinforcements led by Pro Consul Goth could arrive. Facing two New Republic build forces the Third managed to hold onto one system. The New Republic took many losses against the Third and Commodore Diggins' personal ship became known as the "Ghost of Calaron" to the Republic, as it arrived out of no where quickly arresting builders before disappearing again. The heroic efforts of the 3rd Fleet turned out to be in vain as the New Republic eventually took over all systems. However, the Emperor was pleased with their efforts.

Hapes Escort

The Emperor was to travel to the Hapes sector to meet King James. It had been almost a year since the Imperial Union had been formed and a meeting by the heads of the two largest and most powerful factions in the galaxy was needed. The Emperor would need an escort, although friendly space, the Emperor was too important to travel with just his Super Star Destroyer. The 3rd had proven that it was still the elite when it held off the rebel forces at Calaron and they were chosen by Emperor Bonias as his personal guard for the trip.

Emperor Bonias was to meet the entire Third fleet in Hapes, he would be aboard the flag ship SSD Sovereign. King James and Hapes had expected a token escort to be with the Emperor, when the majority of the fleet arrived ahead of schedule it gave them a big surprise. Two Imperial Star Destroyers, 4 Victory Star Destroyers as well as a couple of support ships exited hyperspace and were soon surrounded by hundreds of Tie fighters.

Adkinien Operation

Vakkar Operation

Shortly after the most recent Navy Reform the planet Vakkar in the Vakkar system, Fakir Sector was chosen to be the next major development. The 3rd Fleet was chosen to be the Fleet to build it, the 3rd would then be stations at Vakkar permanently and would be the Fakir Sector's Fleet.

Commander Gambit was to lead the 3rd Fleet in this operation. The plan was split into 5 phases, rotating building and transporting duties. Vakkar operation began towards the end of Year 8. The Fleet worked round the clock to get the planet finished as soon as possible, the opportunity to earn extra credits boosted most of the lower ranked pilots.

Not long into the Vakkar development 3rd Fleet CO Arkhan Gambit, now a Captain, was replaced by Commander Walter Boole. Towards the end the Fleet also began building Golan II defense stations in orbit of Vakkar. The operation ended mid year 9 and the fleet was given a rest period. A commendation for the great efforts as well as a Fleet of the Month award soon followed. While many pilots did well one in particular, David Crow excelled and would later take leave from the fleet to work with the Naval Engineer Corps (NEC).

Elite Fighter Squadrons

Armageddon Squadron

Over the years many elite squadrons have been formed within the 3rd fleet, most notable the ruthless Armaggedon squadron led by Lt. James, now the Hapan King. Following the reform and reorganization of the fleet, as well as the the fleet's focus on supporting Imperial expansion the fleets fighter wings deteriorated. The introduction of a new elite wing has changed all that.

The Knights

Towards the end of year 9 Command Flight Officer Patrick Martin formed a new elite fighter wing, The Knights. The goal was to not only showcase the great skills within the 3rd but to improve the morale of all the fighter pilots in the fleet. It is almost impossible to become a knight, with only 12 being active at any one time and chances are few will die. The Knights can be identified by the rapier sword each member carries and their shoulder capes each wears.
