Carida (INB) — Army personnel and IDPSE officials met last week regarding the case of former Command Sergeant Inara Imperium, a soldier who attempted to lead a number of her compatriots in a mass desertion after demotion and removal from command for a variety of causes. Chief among these charges were Conduct Unbecoming of an Officer and Disrespect Towards a Superior Officer, which were raised after Imperium issued repeated public statements insulting members of Army High Command.

The Imperial Department of Psychological Studies and Examination has recently released documentation stating that Imperium had developed a mental illness sometime during her command. Although IDPSE had diagnosed and prescribed treatment, it is now apparent that Imperium had lied about undergoing said treatment, and as a result, her condition visibly worsened. “If we had known earlier, we could have administered treatment, forcefully if necessary,” remarked Supervisor Yugin Bloolr of the IDPSE. “But, we believed that we could trust a commanding officer to make the right decisions. It appears that in this case, we were sadly wrong.”
Problems increased as Imperium continued her paranoid accusations. Younger soldiers began to believe her, not knowing the sad truth that lay beneath the surface. This resulted in several misguided attempts at desertion, and one reported suicide. ISB is continuing to investigate the suicide and is considering prosecuting Imperium in absentia with negligent manslaughter. The family of the deceased is currently filing civil charges against Inara Imperium.

Sympathy is not universal, however. Army High Command personnel officer First Lieutenant Chon Wein said, “I don’t feel the least bit sorry for [Imperium]. She was offered everything she needed to get well, but apparently she knew better than the medical officers.” There are currently rumors that Imperium has joined the Falleen Federation’s armed forces. IDPSE has issued a statement urging Falleen medical officers to exercise utmost caution in dealing with Imperium, and if possible, to commit her for mental examination and treatment. “We only hope that someone will get her the help she clearly needs, before another innocent is hurt or worse,” commented Supervisor Bloolr.
