"A man's worth is no greater than his ambitions."
— The de Montfort Family motto.

Everard de Montfort (born Year -35, Day 173) is a Tetan male and career politician in the service of the Galactic Empire. He graduated with honours from the Imperial Academy and began his career in the Corporate Sector, where he rose through the ranks to serve as sector adjutant and later as Moff. Following his service there, he was reassigned to the Core Worlds and appointed Moff of the Corellia Sector. In addition to his administrative duties, de Montfort has served at the Imperial Academy as both a training officer and a senior recruitment officer. He has most recently held executive roles in the private sector, serving as Chief Executive Officer of both the Corellian Engineering Corporation and Imperial Munitions.

Biography

Early Life

Everard de Montfort was born on Year -35, Day 173 in Cinnagar, the capital city of Empress Teta. He was the only surviving child of Amaury and Eleanor de Montfort, both of whom claimed descent from Empress Teta, the historic namesake of the planet and a prominent figure of the Great Hyperspace War. His mother, Eleanor, was a Tetan aristocrat who served on various planetary councils. She died due to complications during childbirth and was remembered by peers as a proud and cultured patron of the arts. His father, Amaury de Montfort, head of House de Montfort, managed the family estates and served as a planetary representative to the Galactic Empire. Under his stewardship, the family expanded its holdings, primarily through the ownership and operation of carbonite mines—a common enterprise among Empress Teta’s noble houses.

During his infancy, de Montfort was raised on the family estate and cared for by a rotation of nannies and household staff. Following the death of his mother, Amaury intentionally cycled through caretakers to prevent de Montfort from forming maternal attachments. As a young child, he frequently caused mischief around the estate with his cousin Simon, earning a reputation among the staff for their unruly antics. One early memory de Montfort would later recall was sitting on his father's knee in the family study at age five, where he was first taught the family motto: "A man's worth is no greater than his ambitions."[1] Though the meaning eluded him at the time, the phrase would later serve as a guiding principle throughout his life.

Following the completion of a significant trade agreement, Amaury was granted an apartment in 500 Republica, a prestigious complex in Coruscant’s Ambassadorial Sector.[2] The family eventually relocated there, and de Montfort spent much of his early childhood in this new environment, socializing with other elite families. It was during these formative years that he was first exposed to the influence of political ambition and the inner workings of the Imperial bureaucracy.

At age ten, de Montfort began formal education under Tar Coses, a philosopher and private tutor who instructed him in grammar, history, political theory, and rhetoric. These lessons sparked an early interest in politics and governance. Upon reaching the appropriate age, he enrolled in COMPNOR’s Sub-Adult Group (SAG), which provided early exposure to Imperial administrative structures. Through an internship with local government offices, he gained practical experience in navigating bureaucracy and managing state functions.

At eighteen, de Montfort applied to the Imperial Academy at Raithal and was accepted. Prior to departing, he and a group of close friends traveled to Spira, a tropical resort world in the Lytton sector, for a final holiday together. During a hike through the jungle, the group ventured off marked paths and encountered a wild blistmok. While the others slept, de Montfort awoke to find the creature watching him from the brush. Recalling survival advice, he remained motionless and held eye contact until the creature retreated. The encounter left a lasting impression on him. de Montfort later credited the experience with instilling a commitment to preparedness and vigilance—values that would serve him well in his later academic and professional pursuits.

Imperial Academy

"Fealty, Fidelity, and Service"
— Imperial Academy motto

De Montfort enrolled in the Raithal branch of the Imperial Academy at the age of 18. He was placed under the supervision of then-Assistant Dean Skyron Cyneran, who would serve as a mentor throughout his time at the Academy. Having developed an early interest in politics and history, de Montfort excelled in those subjects. By contrast, he struggled in combat training, which was largely unfamiliar to him. Despite these early challenges, he demonstrated perseverance and, with the support of his fellow cadets, eventually achieved proficiency in the discipline. Over time, he developed an unexpected aptitude for marksmanship, performing particularly well in the rifleman trials.

At the conclusion of his final semester, following the grading of examinations, Assistant Dean Cyneran summoned de Montfort to discuss his academic performance. De Montfort was informed that he had passed all required examinations and would graduate with honors. He was further advised that a position had been secured for him within one of the Imperial sectors and that he would be commissioned at the rank of Chief Planetary Assistant (E-3) upon graduation. Shortly thereafter, de Montfort began preparations for his new role within the Regional Government.

Within two days of graduation, de Montfort received his deployment orders, hand-delivered by a first-year cadet. The orders instructed him to report to Eastport Starport with all essential belongings at his earliest convenience. After completing preparations and arranging for a service droid to assist with his luggage, he traveled to the starport. Upon arrival, he navigated through security and customs before locating his assigned transport.

Contrary to his expectations of traveling aboard a standard AA-9 transport vessel, de Montfort discovered that a Lambda-class shuttle had been designated for his use. The expedited transport suggested the involvement of a sector Moff, underscoring the importance of his assignment. After settling into his cabin, de Montfort received the remainder of his orders from the shuttle's captain and reviewed them via encrypted datapad. He was to oversee administrative operations on a newly annexed planet still undergoing political and infrastructural transition under Imperial control.

Despite a sense of apprehension regarding the scale of the assignment—his first experience managing planetary affairs—de Montfort committed himself to the role. Unbeknownst to him at the time, the voyage to the Corporate Sector would mark the beginning of a career shaped by both opportunity and adversity.

During his transit to his first assignment in the Corporate Sector, de Montfort’s shuttle was unexpectedly pulled from hyperspace by interdiction fields generated by a rebel gravity well projector. The vessel immediately came under fire, sustaining several hits to its deflector shields.

Waking to the turbulence, de Montfort made his way to the cockpit, where the captain informed him that they had entered an active skirmish zone and were under orders from a nearby Imperial flagship. De Montfort was directed to assist with defense and manned the retractable aft-mounted R-T0 twin blaster cannons. Scanning for incoming threats, he identified and engaged a pursuing X-wing starfighter. After several exchanges, he succeeded in destroying the enemy fighter with a direct hit.

Shortly after, the interdiction vessel was neutralized by Imperial forces, and the shuttle was able to return to hyperspace. Upon arrival in the Corporate Sector several days later, de Montfort disembarked and was met by a local official who escorted him to the government administrative center where he was to begin his new role.

Government Service

Following approximately one year of administrative service in various Outer Rim sectors, de Montfort was presented with a notable career opportunity. The recent transfer of Governor Skyron Cyneran, his former mentor and superior at the Imperial Academy, to the Tapani Sector left the governorship of the Dromund system vacant. Unwilling to remain in mid-tier bureaucratic roles, de Montfort actively campaigned for succession to the post.

To support his candidacy and gather intelligence on political rivals, de Montfort employed a private investigator, Adelaide Elliar (later known as Adelaide de Montfort following their marriage). With Elliar’s assistance, de Montfort conducted a discreet but effective campaign to discredit other contenders and position himself as the most qualified and politically viable choice for the role.

Shortly after Governor Cyneran’s reassignment, de Montfort was summoned to the capitol complex on Dromund Kaas. In a formal ceremony attended by senior sector officials, he was officially appointed Governor of the Dromund system and granted the accompanying insignia of office. In addition to his gubernatorial responsibilities, de Montfort was designated Acting Sector Adjutant, further expanding his administrative influence across the region.

During his tenure as governor, de Montfort was responsible for overseeing the development and urban expansion of multiple worlds within the Dromund system. Notably, his administration facilitated large-scale habitation initiatives on several gas giants, resulting in the settlement of hundreds of millions of Imperial citizens. These efforts brought him to the attention of Moff Eric Jackson, the presiding governor of the Corporate Sector, which encompassed both the Sith Worlds and numerous Outer Rim trade hubs. Jackson, impressed with de Montfort’s administrative capabilities and political acumen, began informally grooming him as a potential successor.

On Year 15, Day 123, de Montfort was formally appointed Moff of the Corporate Sector, succeeding Jackson as the sector’s highest-ranking Imperial official. In this role, he oversaw a range of planetary developments, from expanding major population centers to regulating profit-oriented trade zones and maintaining regional stability.

Less than a year after assuming the post, de Montfort was reassigned to the Core Worlds, where he succeeded High Moff Niven Scherbankov as Moff of the Corellian Sector. This transition marked a significant elevation in both prestige and responsibility, placing de Montfort at the helm of one of the Empire’s most strategically vital regions.

Ministry Service

In Year 20, Everard de Montfort resigned from government service to seek new challenges. His decision to step away from his political duties marked a significant shift in his career, as he transitioned into the corporate world.

He joined the Corellian Engineering Corporation (CEC) as Chief Operations Officer (COO), where he applied his leadership and management skills to oversee the corporation's operations. As COO, Everard played a key role in streamlining production processes and improving operational efficiency across the company’s divisions. After a time, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CEC. In this role, he guided the company through continued growth, contributing to innovations in both starship manufacturing and military technology. Under his leadership, CEC strengthened its position as a leading supplier of ships and technology to both civilian and military markets.

Everard later moved to Imperial Munitions, assuming the role of acting CEO. In this capacity, he was responsible for managing the production of weaponry and munitions for the Imperial military. His focus was on stabilizing the company and ensuring the efficient output of critical military supplies.

Throughout his career in the corporate sector, Everard drew on his previous experience in governance and military administration to guide the companies under his leadership.

Dromund Kaas BC

On Year 15 Day 4, Everard concluded negotiations with the League Administration and Board of Directors to acquire the former Andromeda Ants boloball club from manager and owner Soren Cas. The deal, which is rumored to have included political favors and a plastic pink flamingo, has largely been kept confidential for the protection of Imperial assets and owner privacy. Upon purchase of the team it was relocated to Dromund Kaas and renamed Dromund Kaas BC. A month prior to the acquisition, Kaas City hosted the grand opening of Kaas City Field, a 120,000 seat stadium which now serves as the current home stadium of Dromund Kaas BC. The team was eventually sold after three consecutive bad seasons.

Montfort BC

After a year long hiatus from association boloball, Everard negotiated the purchase of the Lettow Rancors (formerly the Thyferran Hammers) near the end of the Season 17. The team was struggling under its previous management and faced relegation to Sub League B. On Year 17, Day 136, Everard assumed ownership and management of the team, renamed it Montfort BC, and led it to a close over CBC Virtus with a final goal in extra time securing its place in Sub League A and avoiding relegation. With an renewed budget, the team began to sign local stars such as forward Filbert McGuinnes and goalkeeper Carl-Bertil Petrén.

Personal Fleet

The Event Horizon.

Event Horizon

The Event Horizon is de Montfort's personal flagship. The heavily modified Ardent-class fast frigate boasts a modest armament of 15 turbolasers and 5 heavy lasers, as well as a Class 1 hyperdrive providing the ship with a decent balance of firepower and speed. The interior has been renovated to mirror the Iron Citadel on Empress Teta with a mix of Victorian and Georgian furniture. The corridors however, while slowly being lined with artwork, remain mostly open to maintain an utilitarian style in the event of an attack or emergency. Modifications to the central computer have allowed for a reduced crew complement bringing the total complement to around 200, almost half of which are household personnel.

The docking bay is home to a growing assortment of smaller ships and vessels, including a Delta-class JV-7 escort shuttle, a number of light freighters, and a personal escort squad of TIE/ln fighters. Guests on the vessel are often provided a red carpet ceremony on arrival and will either be greeted personally by de Montfort or escorted by a valet to their quarters.

Political Views

Xenophobia

Everard maintains the humanocentric viewpoint that humans are genetically and physically superior to all other species. Since his early childhood on Empress Teta, Everard has developed a superior view of humans over the various inferior species of the galaxy and wholeheartedly supports the Empire's Species Policy. He opposes any efforts to promote the equality of species under the law and in Imperial society and frequently attempts to bypass Moff Jackson to pass legislation aimed to limit the rights of Class B and C citizens. His views have led to a frictional (and at times comical) relationship with the diathim Moff Jackson. While he maintains a view of human superiority, Everard acknowledges and respects Class B and C citizens that attempt to better themselves through hard work and dedication to the Empire.[3]

Aristocracy

Everard holds a favorable view of aristocracy and the rights of nobility and royalty. Growing up amongst the nobility of Empress Teta with the belief of being a descendant of Teta, Everard has developed a respect for the ancient custom and believes it to be superior to other forms of government. Learning and witnessing the faults and failures of democracies and republics throughout the galaxy has further strengthened this his views on the subject. Though relinquishing his own titles in compliance with Imperial law DGE-006, he maintains his views on aristocracy and hopes to one day acquire a title within the Empire.

  3. Jump up It is interesting to note that while Everard holds strong humanocentric views, he is frequently seen in friendship with Imperial and non-Imperial aliens of all classes. It would seem that he treats those he considers friends as equals regardless of species.
