The ISB is responsible for internal security. The ISB stations agents within every unit and department of the [[Galactic Empire|Empire]]. Their roles include, among other things, policing, counter-terrorism, investigation, apprehension, communication monitoring, surveillance, interrogation, Order-wide human resource management, re-education, adjucation and protocol enforcement. The Bureau maintains a public presence in all Imperial communication channels, providing additional security and an accessable means of contact for all Imperial citizens.

The Director is the head of the ISB. He reports directly to the [[Grand Vizier]] and the [[Imperial Throne]]. His second-in-command is the Deputy Director, who only reports to him. The Deputy Director is responsible for leading the ISB in the absence of the Director.

The Chief of Enforcement works alongside [[Imperial Intelligence]], bounty hunters, and planetary governments to assist the Bureau in the apprehension of Imperial lawbreakers. The Prime Adjuctator is the chief investigator of all high crimes. They both report to the Deputy Director.

Branch Liaisons have full jurisdiction, control, and command over Bureau activities within their branch. A Sector Liaison has full jurisdiction and control over all branches and departments within their sector; they work alongside and with the Fleet and Legion Liaisons assigned to their sector. Branch and Sector Liaisons report to the Deputy Director. The Fleet and Legion Liaisons are directly assigned to their military unit and oversee only ISB-related activities within those units. They generally report to either their Branch or Sector Liaison.
