Kol Seraph was born on Taris, on Y-11 D232 to Garran and Lasha Seraph, who were refugees from a war in the Outer Rim. Although educated, as Kol’s parents were refugees, the Seraphs were forced to live in poverty in Taris’ Lower City, a violent place made infamous by its swoop gangs and ever-present signs of urban decay. Unwilling to spend the rest of his life in hardscrabble poverty and squalor under the great spires of his segregated urban homeworld, Kol ran away from home during his adolescence and joined one of the Lower City’s swoop gangs: the “Undercity Shades”, vowing never to look back.

Not much is certain about the precise details surrounding Kol Seraph’s early life. What is known for sure is that he was born on Day 234, Year -7, to Garran and Lasha Seraph, Human expatriates of the Outer Rim who had made their way to the galactic capital planet of Coruscant sometime before their son was born. The Seraphs lived in a small family home in the modest, middle-class district of Sah’c Town, and owned an equally small, but for the most part prosperous, business enterprise, involved in hauling freight from Imperial Center’s orbit to the surface, and vice-versa. Their new life in the Core Worlds seemed to be a story of success, at least until the troubles that came to the galactic capital in Year -4, which saw Coruscant plagued by ever-increasing taxes, power outages, food shortages, and the subsequent periods of civil unrest that lasted for weeks on end. The situation only deteriorated further when, shortly before Kol’s third birthday, his mother fell victim to the disastrous outbreak of the virulent Grey Plague, which claimed countless thousands of lives of those not native to the spires of the city-planet.

Kol’s father Garran spent much of his family’s fortune, and sold off much of his business’ interests and his family’s home in a vain attempt to purchase vaccines and medicines with which to save the life of the mother of his child, first from the authorities, and then from less reputable sources, even moving to the infamously ramshackle tenement habs of Coruscant’s Undercity to cut his expenses. When the strong-willed Lasha Seraph finally succumbed to the ravages of the Plague, her heartbroken widower lost the will to keep the doors of his business open any longer, and had nowhere near the sum of credits with which to pay back his unscrupulous debtors. He refused to even gaze upon the face of his adolescent son, as the features of Kol’s maternal bloodline bore themselves prominently on his visage, painfully reminding Garran of the lover he had lost.

After several years, Kol, whose blond hair, slim, lanky frame, and emerald-green eyes belied an uncommon cunning, ambition, and willpower, eventually rose to become one of the Shades’ ranking lieutenants, known for planning and leading many daring and successful raids against rival gangs in the Lower City, and attacking vulnerable commercial interests in the slightly less troubled Middle City. This lucrative state of affairs began to change for the worse, however, after the [[Galactic Empire]] claimed Taris and took over Taris’ Upper City, installing a planetary governor and garrisoning the planet with large numbers of well-disciplined foreign troops. The Shades, along with their fellow gangs, began making plans to defend the Lower City from Imperial attack, and each attempted to unite all the gangs under their banner through strength of arms, leading to a vicious gang war. This vicious, internecine conflict eventually spilled into the Middle City, forcing the Empire’s hand to intervene.  Realizing that the war against the Empire was lost before it had even begun, Kol abandoned the Shades and went into hiding, knowing that he could not return home, as doing so would put his innocent parents’ lives in jeopardy, and committed to stay true to his promise to never turn back no matter what, no longer for his own sake, but for theirs now as well.

While in hiding, however, Kol was discovered and caught by his former comrades, who nearly beat him to death, and would have finished the job, had it not been for the intervention of a squad of Imperial soldiers conducting a reconnaissance patrol of the Lower City, in advance of the main assault force. His tormentors killed by the Imperials, Kol was rescued and brought to the Middle City for medical treatment, a turn of events which convinced him to re-evaluate his views on the [[New Order]], a society he had been taught to hate and distrust by his treacherous former peers.

Intent on collecting on the debts owed to him, the notorious man known only as ‘The Boss’, the leader of ‘the Syndicate’, the criminal organization which Garran had taken out his loan from, soon sent his agents to force Seraph to pay up. When Garran refused to pay (indeed, he did not possess the means nor the will to do so in the first place), The Boss made up his mind to make an example of him. When the gangster’s thugs stormed into Garran’s run-down apartment, they had discovered their target had committed suicide, having been driven mad with grief and despair (unknowingly having done so while his son watched on in horror under his bed, driven to that sanctuary by the terrible madness in his father’s eyes hours earlier). After The Boss’ men ransacked the dilapidated apartment in a vain search for the credits Garran had owed, the thugs found the boy, still in the embrace of shock inspired by the emotional trauma he had witnessed. They easily abducted the 3 year old, despite his struggles, bringing him before their employer as ‘collateral’. Forced into slavery to pay off his father’s debts, Kol suffered The Boss’ abuses until he was 8 years old, when he immediately seized the chance to kill his hated master in his sleep with a paring knife. After escaping the prison which had ensnared him for more than half of his young life, Kol, a bright lad with a razor-sharp wit, quickly learned to survive on his own on the unforgiving, ruthless streets of Coruscant's decaying, neglected Undercity, while the Syndicate's operations on Coruscant reeled from The Boss’ death for months to come, allowing his adolescent murderer to vanish into the shadows. On the merciless streets, Kol eventually joined a relatively unknown juvie gang, known as the 'Undercity Shades', as a petty thief and pick-pocket. With his ambitious nature and his affiliation with violence, however, it only took a couple of years for Kol to become the gang’s leader. His ruthless leadership eventually brought the Shades notoriety and recognition from rival gangs, not to mention the lethal, watchful eye of the Syndicate itself.

After Kol had recovered in the Middle City (the traumatic experience of first awakening fully submerged in a bacta tank developing into a lifelong phobia of confinement in close quarters, and a distrust of doctors and medical treatment in general), Kol made up his mind to join the [[Imperial Army]], and to leave Taris behind for good. At the time, however, he was 16, being a year too young to enlist. So Kol instead joined [[COMPNOR]]’s Tarisian Imperial Youth Militia, a local paramilitary organization of youths devoted to ending the gang violence that, it was said, had plagued the Lower City for untold generations. His experience as a gang leader of no small repute serving him well in the Youth Militia, Kol soon distinguished himself and swiftly climbed up the organization’s ranks. By the time of Kol’s 17th birthday, his prior service in the IYM had earned him passage off-world, to commence Basic Training in the Imperial Army.

Although the events of his life denied him a proper Imperial primary education, and he eschewed the abusive curriculum taught at the Imperial orphanages, Kol understood the value of learning and planning ahead of his enemies. A testament to his sharp intellect, Kol retained basic reading and comprehension skills his parents had imparted to him at a very early age, and as he grew older, he taught himself how to read and write Imperial Basic. His time as a slave proved to do very little in preventing him from developing his intellect, although the experiences he witnessed at a premature age undoubtedly had an effect on other aspects of his juvenile mind.

Kol and his followers managed to outwit the Syndicate's agents for over 6 years, and Kol himself displayed a talent for turning the passions and prejudices of the warring gangs from against each other to their mutual enemy, which could have eventually forced the criminal enterprise off the planet entirely, if it had not been for the greed and envy of Kol's most trusted lieutenants. They had always been secretly envious of Kol’s leadership and resentful of his ambitions, and enthusiastically betrayed their fellow Shades when given the chance. In exchange for a fortune in credits, the collaborators approached the Syndicate's new Undercity leaders in secret, and betrayed to them information on the rest of the gang’s current activities, whereabouts, and safe houses. Despite his vicious upbringing, betrayal at the hands of his closest compatriots was the very last thing Kol expected. The trap the Syndicate had set resulted in the deaths of all but one of the Shades, including the traitors: the one thing the bosses tolerated less than competition on their turf were turncoats motivated by greed. Of course, they saved Kol for last; forcing him to watch on as both his loyal comrades and those who had betrayed him were put to the sword.

Kol trained as an IBT Recruit under Captain Rik Zoidic, then CO of the [[3rd Imperial Legion]], who recognized Seraph’s ability to grasp fieldcraft, specifically a heightened perception of his surroundings and ability to move about unseen if he wished, as well as his affinity for piloting ground and air repulsorcraft, traits that had more than earned Seraph a place in the Army’s Reconnaissance Corps. After graduating from Basic Training, Seraph was promoted to Private, and made a Legionnaire of the [[1st Imperial Legion]], being assigned to the 1st Brigade, “the Immortals”.

It did not take long for Seraph’s superior officer, Lieutenant Akai Ai, to recognize the leadership potential in the young Private, who soon promoted him to Corporal, swiftly followed thereafter by a promotion to Sergeant (making Kol a Non-Commissioned Officer), which in fact took place on the same day of Emperor Guinar’s ascension to the Throne. This last promotion was earned during an operation which saw Seraph and his squad infiltrate an Eidola-controlled installation, code-named "Elandorea", to retrieve a stolen Imperial starfighter and take into custody the defector who intended to profit from making it over to the Pirates. This mission, although costing the lives of several of Seraph’s squadmates, was concluded successfully, with the defector executed on-site, and the starfighter recovered.

It seemed Kol's brutal life was about to be cut short until a squad of Imperial Army soldiers suddenly burst into the scene and made short work of the unsuspecting and ill-prepared syndicate agents. By chance, or perhaps even fate, the leader of the mobster hit-squad that had killed Kol's gang, a Zeltron, murdered the daughter of an Imperial Moff several years earlier, and the Empire had come to bring justice down upon the criminal's head, a fortuitous coincidence for the 16-year-old Seraph. The coldly efficient and professional Imperials saving his life and inadvertently avenging the deaths of his friends had a profound effect on Kol's life. After convincing the squad Sergeant to allow him to tag along, Kol soon made up his mind to join the Imperial Army, motivated by a sense of duty to uphold the [[Empire]]'s values: the brutal enforcement of order and justice upon a chaotic, lawless galaxy.

Having to wait two years before being eligible for enlistment in the [[Emperor]]'s armed forces, Kol spent the time by enrolling and serving in the Imperial Youth Militia, a paramilitary detachment of the Imperial SAGroup, itself a subsidiary body of COMPNOR, to gain the military ethos he believed he required to excel in an Imperial Army career. Due to his previous life experience on the streets, Kol excelled during his time in the Militia, and through them, he earned a scholarship to attend the [[Imperial Academy]], which he did as soon as he turned 18. Under the tutelage of Captain [[Rik Zoidic]], then CO of the [[3rd Imperial Legion]], [[Recruit]] Seraph found the inspiration he needed to excel in his Academy studies as well. During his time at the Academy, Recruit Seraph's superiors and peers noted that he not only possessed an above average IQ and that he absorbed the customs of Imperial military life with gusto, but also that he was no stranger to violence and the responsibilities of leadership.

Upon returning to Brigade HQ (at that time the Army [[Victory Star Destroyer I|''Victory'']]-class Star Destroyer ''Immortal''), it became clear that Seraph, whose abilities and leadership skill were recognized, was being groomed for command of his own at a later date, which suited the young Sergeant just fine. Seraph was appointed Signals Officer of the 1st Legion, succeeding [[Santiano Salazar]], CO of the 1st Brigade’s sister unit, the 4th Brigade, in this position. Embracing the duties that accompanied an administrative position with the same zeal that he had demonstrated on the battlefield, Seraph soon earned his promotion to Master Sergeant, and an accompanying appointment as Captain Ai’s new 2iC. As a Master Sergeant, Kol also applied for adult COMPNOR membership, and successfully joined both the [[Imperial Archives]] and the [[Imperial Centre for Recruitment]] on a part time basis, as an Archivist and Recruiter, respectively. His devotion to duty, not only to the Army, but to COMPNOR as well, duly paved the way for Seraph’s eventual promotion to Command Sergeant.

Two weeks after graduating, Private Seraph received word from 2nd Lieutenant [[Santiano Salazar]], his unit’s Signals Officer, who assigned him his posting in the Army, and from there, Kol’s life as an Imperial truly began. Upon graduating from the Academy, Kol was initially expecting to receive a posting to 3IL, the Shadow Guards, under the command of his Academy mentor, Captain Zoidic. Instead, he received a message from [[RADIA]] stating that they had assigned him to the 1st Imperial Legion, the Immortals, and arguably the most elite Brigade in the entire Army. Initially surprised that RADIA had assigned him to such a prestigious Army unit, Kol felt quite honored about where Army administration had placed him. It was not long after successfully doing so that Kol arranged transport to the Legion’s VSD, and looked upon his homeworld from space for the first time in his life, an exciting prospect for the young Coruscanti soldier.

Having reached as far as he could go in the Army while remaining a Non-Commissioned Officer, but unwilling to relinquish his ambition of one day having his own command, Seraph made clear his intention to undertake the rigorous training and studies necessary for him to earn a commission and become an Officer. With his CO’s support, Kol enrolled in the infamously exclusive Imperial Army College on Carida, source of the Army’s finest commissioned Officers and located in the immediate vicinity of Army HQ. Applying his practical experience garnered both during his adolescence on Taris and after enlisting in the Army, Seraph excelled in his studies, surpassing many of his higher-class peers. Several months after enrolling in the Army College, Seraph graduated and earned his commission to 2nd Lieutenant, returning to 1BDE as an officer whose area of expertise, Brigade Command – Reconnaissance Specialization, earned him the coveted Brigade Command Medal. Lieutenant Seraph concluded his tenure as 1st Brigade Executive Officer by co-ordinating leadership of the Immortals with Captain Ai, helping lead them to a resounding victory against a determined Rebel incursion against the 5 worlds of the Ralltiir system, located in the Darpa Sector. In recognition of the Immortals’ decisive triumph in the Ralltiir theatre in mid-Year 13, the Immortals received the praise and adulation of the whole Empire, and the ACO, Lord General [[Graeda L`Annan|L`Annan]] herself, awarded each and every member of the 1st Brigade with the Unit Distinguished Service medal. Captain Ai himself was also promoted to Major and awarded with the Achievement Medal for his leadership, accolades which Kol was proud to have helped his CO earn.

Seraph soon came to be viewed as a valued member of the unit due to his incredible self discipline and sense of professionalism, meeting General [[Graeda L'Annan|L'Annan]], the [[Army Executive Officer]] at the time, through his eccentric [[BCO]], 2nd Lieutenant Akai Ai, whose demeanor and idiosyncrasies often reminded Kol of his former friends in the Shades. Seraph and Lieutenant Ai often joked about life in the Imperial Army and the Empire in general, although Kol always remembered to restrain himself when doing so, so as not to receive disciplinary action for misconduct by any of his other superiors. Despite a few incidents and mistakes on his part that his superiors fairly attributed to military inexperience, the Lieutenant must have been impressed with his performance, as even in the presence of superior officers, Ai took the liberty of labeling Kol as 'the best Private in the Imperial Army' several times. To Seraph’s astonishment, Lieutenant Ai actually made good on his offer to try and make Kol his BXO by requesting permission to do so from ACOMD, although they denied this request, and the position went to [[Dante Erinith]], a newly commissioned officer who was without a doubt the most eligible man for the job.

With the subsequent appointment of [[Santiano Salazar]] as the new Commanding Officer of the 1st Legion, the vacancy in the chain of command Seraph had long awaited finally presented itself. Before his appointment, Salazar had been CO of the 1st Brigade’s sister unit, 4BDE, better known by their nickname: “the Spectres”. ACOMD was now looking for a promising young officer to assume command of the premier Reconnaissance Brigade in the Army, and Lieutenant Seraph put his name forward, confident that his credentials and record of service among the Immortals would earn him his own command. He was not disappointed, as the reins of command were bestowed upon him, along with the honor of an accompanying promotion to 1st Lieutenant. Seraph commanded 4BDE with Icarus Carinae as his 2iC, and [[Redme Schwarz]] as his Sergeant Major, and during his tenure as BCO, the Spectres contributed much to the Army-wide initiative known as [Operation: Isolated Axiom], which sought to modernize various aspects of combat doctrine in the face of increasing aggression against the Galactic Empire and its [[Imperial Union|allies]] from the belligerent, renegade states of the [[Galactic Alliance]].

Private Seraph's first posting was as a designated Marksman of Alpha Squad, the command Squad of the 1st RECON BN's 1st Section, under the immediate command of Sergeant Mikhail Perry, a career soldier the young Private came to respect immensely. The 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, also known as 'the Vanguards', was the premier Recon unit in the whole Imperial Army, and it was in this outfit that Kol Seraph first proudly donned the armor of the Imperial Scout Trooper. As a Marksman of Alpha Squad, Kol saw his first combat action, on the politically troubled planet of Fenves, in the aid of besieged government forces seeking to deliver the planet into the Imperial fold from Rebel insurgents. The so-called Fenves Intervention, known officially as 'Operation: Exorcist', was a resounding success for Imperial forces, although the leader of 1st Section's Bravo Squad, the Section's 2IC, was wounded in action, and shortly thereafter, she retired from active duty. Not long afterwards, Seraph, on Sergeant Perry's personal recommendation after he distinguished himself during the Fenves operation, received a promotion from Private to Corporal, and therefore became Perry's new 2IC. This appointment simultaneously made Seraph Squad Leader of the Section’s Bravo Squad.

While en route to the Kuat Sector and their next assignment, Bravo Squad participated in the defense of the Imperial Star Destroyer ''Protector'' after the actions of a Rebel saboteur crippled her, and afterwards, when Rebel reinforcements subsequently arrived to attempt to take control of the ship. Coordinating their efforts with their Navy comrades, Seraph and his Squad successfully repelled the hostile boarding action, although the survivors of the Rebel strike force managed to wound Corporal Seraph quite seriously while he personally saw to the defense of the Protector’s bridge, and was forced to spend the next two weeks immersed in a tank full of [[bacta]] solution to recuperate. Bravo Squad itself was decorated for the unyielding support it gave to wounded Imperial Navy personnel throughout the ship, saving several dozen lives.

All of Seraph’s Legion comrades were shocked when one of their own, Corporal Alzie Jamima, an Imperial Academy honors graduate and Seraph’s peer in the 3rd Infantry Company, went AWOL. After a probationary period had ended, Legion Command charged the errant Corporal guilty of deserting her post. This incident sparked further outrage when Jamima had commandeered her assigned craft, designated Inferno 10, which LCOMD had tracked to none other than a recently discovered, [[Eidola]]-controlled base on the Imperial planet of Spira, in the Lytton Sector. To deal with the fallout of this incident, LCOMD deployed two units. The first was the 2nd Heavy Armor Battalion, tasked to wipe all traces of the [[pirates]] from Spira for good, and the second was a small unit of 1st Reconnaissance Battalion soldiers. The latter’s objectives were to bring the traitorous Jamima into Imperial custody, and secure Imperial property (Inferno 10 itself) and spare it from the complete destruction of the pirate base. The unit chosen for this inherently dangerous operation was Corporal Seraph’s former Squad, Sergeant Perry’s Alphas.

As soon as Bravo Squad blasted its way clear of the Eidola base, Seraph relayed his Squad’s mission complete status to LCOMD. At last, given clearance to begin their operation, the 2nd Heavy Armor Battalion moved to assault Elandorea in force, and easily swept aside all enemy resistance, which had been significantly scattered and demoralized by Bravo’s operation. Despite having saved two of his former squad mates, Seraph refused to recognize the Elandorea Raid as anything other than a pyrrhic victory.

As 1st Section's new Commander, as well as Bravo Squad Leader, Seraph had quite a workload to get used to upon returning from the Elandorea Raid. The Section's newest member, Private [[Faison Ka`Marick|Ka`Marick]], who had been slated to be added to Alpha's roster, now had no Squad to serve in. Ka`Marick possessed prior combat experience before enlisting with the Imperial Army that Sergeant Seraph knew better than to ignore. When LCOMD followed through with promoting Ka`Marick from Private to Sergeant himself, Kol approached him with a choice: either he now could leave 1st Section to become a Section Commander himself, or he could remain in 1st Section and serve as Seraph's 2IC. Fortunately for Seraph and 1st Section, Sergeant Ka`Marick chose to remain on Bravo's roster, agreeing to temporarily take up the dual positions of Section 2IC and Bravo Squad Leader. This allowed Sergeant Seraph to concentrate wholly on his duties as Section Commander: to rebuild 1st Section into a viable combat unit in the wake of Alpha Squad's dissolution.

Conveniently, a position opened when Command Sergeant Marco Kerred, Commander of the 1st RECON BN, received an officer’s commission and transferred to command another unit. His replacement, Command Sergeant Hellebore, lacked a 2IC and chose Master Sergeant Seraph, newly promoted and the most eligible soldier in the battalion, to take his place. Hellebore’s own protégé, Sergeant Perry, held the young Coruscanti soldier in high regard before his death at Elandorea. Therefore, the newly promoted Master Sergeant left command of 1st Section to his former 2IC, Sergeant Ka’Marick, and became 2IC of the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion. However, before leaving 1st Section, it is worth noting that Seraph reconstituted Alpha Squad, leaving Ka'Marick in command of a fully combat-ready unit. Command of Alpha Squad naturally fell to the new Section Commander as well.

When it seemed that just as he was getting accustomed to the prospect of non-combat duties in the Imperial Army, Master Sergeant Seraph was again called upon to lead his fellow Immortals in combat operations on a couple of occasions. The first was a highly experimental joint task force training exercise carried out by integrated elements of both the Army and Navy, following the Military Integration reforms of early Year 13. The precise details of this training operation are still classified, but it can be shared that elements of both the 1st Legion's Infantry and Reconnaissance Corps performed admirably under strenuous conditions, under the command of 1st Lieutenant Akai Ai and Master Sergeant Seraph, who served as his Acting XO for the duration of the Operation.

The second, however, was no training exercise. A string of terrorist attacks in the form of suicide bombings, perpetrated by anti-Imperial insurgents on the Empire's capital of Coruscant, Seraph's home planet, forced the soldiers of the 1st to prematurely suspend their roles in the aforementioned training exercise, return home with all haste to restore general order, and bring Imperial justice down upon the heads of those insurgents who still remained alive. Upon entering the capital's orbit and swiftly deploying to the likely target of the Rebels' next strike, Seraph and his comrades swiftly and efficiently brought the crisis to an acceptable resolution with extreme prejudice. Seraph himself, concerned of the presence of hostiles on his homeworld, diligently did all he could to ensure none of the cowards' ringleaders either escaped Imperial custody, or with their lives. Kol realized only some time later that around this time, his actions began to be closely monitored by powers beyond his immediate vision, powers that had the ability to make or break him...

On Day 73 of Year 13, Master Sergeant Seraph's candidacy for the position of Brigade Executive Officer was once again brought under consideration, following 2nd Lieutenant Erinith's rather abrupt announcement that he would be rescinding his Commission and resigning from the Imperial Army. After only a short period of deliberation between 1st Lieutenant Ai (who had rather infamously requested ACOMD to allow Seraph to serve as his XO when he was but a mere Private fresh out of the Academy), Captain Morcha Drayson, 1IL's Commanding Officer, and Seraph himself, the 19-year-old Coruscanti Non-Commissioned Officer became the new Executive Officer of the 1st Assault Brigade. Added to Seraph's exultation at such a development in his career was the fact that, as Legion Signals Officer, he himself would be responsible for updating his Legion's records to make note of his own latest achievement.

Seraph’s Battalion Commander and immediate superior, Command Sergeant Victor Hellebore, initially proved to be difficult man for the 19-year-old Non-Commissioned Officer to please. Expecting to end his professional career as a highly decorated career soldier with his deceased protégé, Mikhail Perry, as his 2IC and eventual successor, Hellebore begrudgingly took Seraph into his staff, reporting disdainfully to his superiors of what precisely he disapproved of ‘this Coruscanti Upstart’. However, Seraph proved a more than adequate 2IC for the coarse veteran through his hard work, determination, and drive not only to succeed, but also to exceed his superior’s expectations. First impressions aside, Hellebore could not help but be impressed by the accomplishments of his most professional soldier, most notably his appointment to Brigade Executive Officer, which in essence put Seraph in a greater position of authority than Hellebore, despite being almost 2 decades younger. Coming to accept that not only was Seraph a good soldier, but also one with a future, Hellebore came around and vouched for Seraph’s candidacy to command a Battalion of his own, although the veteran Imperial continued to never once accept anything other than Kol’s best. Despite misgivings of his own at the start that were inspired by Hellebore’s enmity, Seraph came to a similar conclusion: he would be damned if he thought that Command Sergeant Hellebore did not deserve his respect. The question of Seraph’s command returned to the fore when LCOMD had him promoted to Command Sergeant, convincing Hellebore that Seraph indeed was the right man to replace him. Only entertaining the possibility of retirement when he felt sure that his Battalion’s command would be a commendable soldier’s inheritance, Hellebore embraced Kol as a son, announcing his intention to step down as Battalion Commander of the Vanguards and accept an honorary commission to Captain in retirement, leaving command of his beloved 1st Reconnaissance Battalion solely in Seraph’s hands.

Koltan "Kol" Seraph is a 25-year-old Human Imperial Army Officer and former COMPNOR member, currently holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. From Y14 D323 to Y15 D58, he served as Project Manager for the Imperial Archives, succeeding his fellow Brigade Commander, comrade, and close friend, Amne Zailyn.

Biography

Kol Seraph was born on Taris, on Y-11 D232 to Garran and Lasha Seraph, who were refugees from a war in the Outer Rim. Although educated, as Kol’s parents were refugees, the Seraphs were forced to live in poverty in Taris’ Lower City, a violent place made infamous by its swoop gangs and ever-present signs of urban decay. Unwilling to spend the rest of his life in hardscrabble poverty and squalor under the great spires of his segregated urban homeworld, Kol ran away from home during his adolescence and joined one of the Lower City’s swoop gangs: the “Undercity Shades”, vowing never to look back.

After several years, Kol, whose blond hair, slim, lanky frame, and emerald-green eyes belied an uncommon cunning, ambition, and willpower, eventually rose to become one of the Shades’ ranking lieutenants, known for planning and leading many daring and successful raids against rival gangs in the Lower City, and attacking vulnerable commercial interests in the slightly less troubled Middle City. This lucrative state of affairs began to change for the worse, however, after the Galactic Empire claimed Taris and took over Taris’ Upper City, installing a planetary governor and garrisoning the planet with large numbers of well-disciplined foreign troops. The Shades, along with their fellow gangs, began making plans to defend the Lower City from Imperial attack, and each attempted to unite all the gangs under their banner through strength of arms, leading to a vicious gang war. This vicious, internecine conflict eventually spilled into the Middle City, forcing the Empire’s hand to intervene. Realizing that the war against the Empire was lost before it had even begun, Kol abandoned the Shades and went into hiding, knowing that he could not return home, as doing so would put his innocent parents’ lives in jeopardy, and committed to stay true to his promise to never turn back no matter what, no longer for his own sake, but for theirs now as well.

While in hiding, however, Kol was discovered and caught by his former comrades, who nearly beat him to death, and would have finished the job, had it not been for the intervention of a squad of Imperial soldiers conducting a reconnaissance patrol of the Lower City, in advance of the main assault force. His tormentors killed by the Imperials, Kol was rescued and brought to the Middle City for medical treatment, a turn of events which convinced him to re-evaluate his views on the New Order, a society he had been taught to hate and distrust by his treacherous former peers.

After Kol had recovered in the Middle City (the traumatic experience of first awakening fully submerged in a bacta tank developing into a lifelong phobia of confinement in close quarters, and a distrust of doctors and medical treatment in general), Kol made up his mind to join the Imperial Army, and to leave Taris behind for good. At the time, however, he was 16, being a year too young to enlist. So Kol instead joined COMPNOR’s Tarisian Imperial Youth Militia, a local paramilitary organization of youths devoted to ending the gang violence that, it was said, had plagued the Lower City for untold generations. His experience as a gang leader of no small repute serving him well in the Youth Militia, Kol soon distinguished himself and swiftly climbed up the organization’s ranks. By the time of Kol’s 17th birthday, his prior service in the IYM had earned him passage off-world, to commence Basic Training in the Imperial Army.

Kol trained as an IBT Recruit under Captain Rik Zoidic, then CO of the 3rd Imperial Legion, who recognized Seraph’s ability to grasp fieldcraft, specifically a heightened perception of his surroundings and ability to move about unseen if he wished, as well as his affinity for piloting ground and air repulsorcraft, traits that had more than earned Seraph a place in the Army’s Reconnaissance Corps. After graduating from Basic Training, Seraph was promoted to Private, and made a Legionnaire of the 1st Imperial Legion, being assigned to the 1st Brigade, “the Immortals”.

It did not take long for Seraph’s superior officer, Lieutenant Akai Ai, to recognize the leadership potential in the young Private, who soon promoted him to Corporal, swiftly followed thereafter by a promotion to Sergeant (making Kol a Non-Commissioned Officer), which in fact took place on the same day of Emperor Guinar’s ascension to the Throne. This last promotion was earned during an operation which saw Seraph and his squad infiltrate an Eidola-controlled installation, code-named "Elandorea", to retrieve a stolen Imperial starfighter and take into custody the defector who intended to profit from making it over to the Pirates. This mission, although costing the lives of several of Seraph’s squadmates, was concluded successfully, with the defector executed on-site, and the starfighter recovered.

Upon returning to Brigade HQ (at that time the Army Victory-class Star Destroyer Immortal), it became clear that Seraph, whose abilities and leadership skill were recognized, was being groomed for command of his own at a later date, which suited the young Sergeant just fine. Seraph was appointed Signals Officer of the 1st Legion, succeeding Santiano Salazar, CO of the 1st Brigade’s sister unit, the 4th Brigade, in this position. Embracing the duties that accompanied an administrative position with the same zeal that he had demonstrated on the battlefield, Seraph soon earned his promotion to Master Sergeant, and an accompanying appointment as Captain Ai’s new 2iC. As a Master Sergeant, Kol also applied for adult COMPNOR membership, and successfully joined both the Imperial Archives and the Imperial Centre for Recruitment on a part time basis, as an Archivist and Recruiter, respectively. His devotion to duty, not only to the Army, but to COMPNOR as well, duly paved the way for Seraph’s eventual promotion to Command Sergeant.

Having reached as far as he could go in the Army while remaining a Non-Commissioned Officer, but unwilling to relinquish his ambition of one day having his own command, Seraph made clear his intention to undertake the rigorous training and studies necessary for him to earn a commission and become an Officer. With his CO’s support, Kol enrolled in the infamously exclusive Imperial Army College on Carida, source of the Army’s finest commissioned Officers and located in the immediate vicinity of Army HQ. Applying his practical experience garnered both during his adolescence on Taris and after enlisting in the Army, Seraph excelled in his studies, surpassing many of his higher-class peers. Several months after enrolling in the Army College, Seraph graduated and earned his commission to 2nd Lieutenant, returning to 1BDE as an officer whose area of expertise, Brigade Command – Reconnaissance Specialization, earned him the coveted Brigade Command Medal. Lieutenant Seraph concluded his tenure as 1st Brigade Executive Officer by co-ordinating leadership of the Immortals with Captain Ai, helping lead them to a resounding victory against a determined Rebel incursion against the 5 worlds of the Ralltiir system, located in the Darpa Sector. In recognition of the Immortals’ decisive triumph in the Ralltiir theatre in mid-Year 13, the Immortals received the praise and adulation of the whole Empire, and the ACO, Lord General L`Annan herself, awarded each and every member of the 1st Brigade with the Unit Distinguished Service medal. Captain Ai himself was also promoted to Major and awarded with the Achievement Medal for his leadership, accolades which Kol was proud to have helped his CO earn.

With the subsequent appointment of Santiano Salazar as the new Commanding Officer of the 1st Legion, the vacancy in the chain of command Seraph had long awaited finally presented itself. Before his appointment, Salazar had been CO of the 1st Brigade’s sister unit, 4BDE, better known by their nickname: “the Spectres”. ACOMD was now looking for a promising young officer to assume command of the premier Reconnaissance Brigade in the Army, and Lieutenant Seraph put his name forward, confident that his credentials and record of service among the Immortals would earn him his own command. He was not disappointed, as the reins of command were bestowed upon him, along with the honor of an accompanying promotion to 1st Lieutenant. Seraph commanded 4BDE with Icarus Carinae as his 2iC, and Redme Schwarz as his Sergeant Major, and during his tenure as BCO, the Spectres contributed much to the Army-wide initiative known as [Operation: Isolated Axiom], which sought to modernize various aspects of combat doctrine in the face of increasing aggression against the Galactic Empire and its allies from the belligerent, renegade states of the Galactic Alliance.
