The 2nd Imperial Legion, comprised of the 2nd and 5th Brigades, is one of the Galactic Empire's most feared and effective assault units. Since Y12 D350, the 2nd Imperial Legion has been commanded by Brigadier General David Terrio.
History
The Second Imperial Legion was formed shortly before the Imperial Army reformation of Year 8 and distinguished itself among the Army's legions during an operation on Thyferra when they brought down a third of the opposing forces despite heavy losses, forcing the rebels into a hasty retreat. They were granted their official nickname, the Hellhounds, for their renowned determination to crush enemies of the Empire. In Year 10 the Hellhounds and the Seventh Imperial Fleet merged to form the experimental military unit known as the Assault Force. The Hellhounds were reformed into the 2nd Imperial Legion, made up of the 2nd and 5th Brigades, in Year 12. The 2nd Brigade inherited the nickname Hellhounds, and the 5th Brigade was awarded the nickname Inferno in complement of her sister brigade.
Graeda L'Annan assumed command of the Second Imperial Legion after its previous commanding officer, Zenchi Senkusha, was arrested on grounds of treason. After L'Annan was appointed as the Army's Executive Officer, Gunther Rall became the legion's commanding officer. He served in that capacity until he was appointed as the Director of Culture in Year 12.
Operations and Missions
|
Imperial operations conducted by or in part with the Second Imperial Legion:
Operation: Warspite
Excellent performance at the Empress Teta system along with the Imperial Navy. Unit awarded with the 'Operation: Warspite' ribbon, the only unit in the Imperial Army to have it.
Thyferra Patrol
Second Legion was sent to Thyferra to keep the offensive over the Trade Federation. Then Captain Mintaka Kyuzo led the unit to a successful operation, being replaced during the mission by Command Sergeant Mark ein Arton. Units deserving mention are the Maelstrom Heavy Mech Brigade and the Protectors Stormtrooper Squad. The campaign also saw the first recorded use of coded communication in real-time operations among Imperial Army units.
Sullust Mission
Against the Sorosuub Corporation's rising threat, the Empire sent the experienced Second Legion to the faction's capital planet of Sullust to a show of force. In the Legion's biggest and most acclaimed mission ever since its creation, the Hellhounds performed with courage and ingenuity in the enemy backyard. Full Walker and Infantry formations were coordinated successfully and the Imperial Army was able to keep a close hold on the planet for several weeks, storming enemy buildings and performing mass arrests. By this time the Second Imperial Legion, known as Hellhounds, became a force to be feared and known among the Galaxy.
Myrkr Sweep
After several months helping the Imperial expansion through engineering and material transportation, the Second Imperial Legion was again sent on an offensive mission. This time on the Myrkr planet. Using advanced techniques learned from previous missions, the Hellhounds were able to scan and effectively cleanse the planet of enemy activity in record time, surpassing even the Navy scouts. Corporal Krall, Captain Arton and 2nd Lieutenant Adams secured a grassland strip in the southeastern part of the planet, nicknamed "Hellhound's Strip".
Coruscant Defense
Several high-ranked officers were involved in this operation, led by Major General Dale Chambers and Brigadier General Alan Steel. City Coruscant was entirely under enemy control. The operative ran in New Republic ships and the city was protected by Anti-Air of the Alderaan Mining Corporation. This operation saw an extensive use of coded communication. A message was sent to all contact in the hostile city, stating the following: "Attention citizen. This area is being searched by the Imperial Army. Stand down and answer this hailing with your current business in this area. Failure to comply may result in arrest."
Troop Preparedness
(Year 9, Day 122 – Year 9, Day 213),
The Hellhounds were then to oversee the training of a garrison of Stormtroopers. The 2nd quickly whipped the troopers into shape, utilizing an intense physical training regime and live fire field exercises.
Adkinien Shield Activation
(Year 9, Day 31)
Operation Stellar Aegis
(Year 10, Day 33 – Year 10, Day 92)
Operation Pirate Cleansing
(Year 10, Day 214 – Year 11, Day 2)
Operation Dumbo Drop
(Year 11 Day 54 - Year 11 Day 64)
Operation Frostbite
(c. Year 12 Day 180 - Year 12 Day 210)
The 2nd Imperial Legion aided the Regional Government under Grand Moff Orphaea Imperium in carrying out a full audit of planetary bodies within the Coruscant Sector, which in turn aided the full audit of all planetary bodies within the Galactic Empire.
Flagships
|
The predecessor of the fearsome and ubiquitous Imperial-class, the Victory-class Star Destroyer saw the height of its production in the beginning of the Clone Wars, filling the need of the Old Republic for a capital ship capable of fulfilling multiple combat roles. The unique, dagger-shaped design of the Star Destroyer allows the Victory-class to concentrate nearly all of its weapons on its front firing arc. This ingenious design has since been copied in every subsequent design of the Star Destroyer by the Empire. While only little more than half the size of the Imperial-class, the Victory-class Star Destroyer mounts 120 turbolaser batteries and 20 proton torpedo launchers, giving it more offensive punch than its larger cousin. Both troop berths and hangar space were sacrificed in order to mount the additional weapons on the hull, making the Victory-class Star Destroyer a dedicated ship-to-ship combat vessel whereas the Imperial-class is able to serve many more functions in the Imperial Navy. After seizing galactic power after the fall of the Old Republic, the Galactic Empire kept the Victory-class in service and even continued to build the vessel, updating and refitting its secondary systems as necessary.
The commissioned flagship of the Second Imperial Legion was, for a number of years, the Victory-I Star Destroyer Cerberus. In the first decade of Imperial history, this vessel was the commissioned flagship of the 8th Imperial Fleet under the name Victory. It was then replaced by an Imperial Star Destroyer and became the personal ship of the fleet's executive officer. After about four years, it was reassigned to the Second Assault Fleet and given the name Abattoir. In c. Year 8, several Victory Star Destroyers were recalled and given back their original name to preserve their historical value. Therefore, the ship known as Cerberus may have had different ID numbers under various commanding officers.
