Coalition for Progress

The Imperial News Bureau, often referred to as INB, is the mass media of the Galactic Empire. INB is a department within the Coalition for Progress, a sub-branch of COMPNOR.

Role

INB is responsible for conveying and making unbiased news available to Imperials, regardless of their location and status within the galaxy, through all mediums. Simply put, INB's duty is to make the truth known to all.

Structure

The Supervisor of INB makes sure that INB is running efficiently.

The Editor-in-Chief is the head of INB. He oversees all INB operations and handles administrative tasks. He reports to the Supervisor and the Vizier of the Coalition for Progress. His second-in-command, the Assistant Editor-in-Chief, is responsible for running INB in his absence.

Editors review and approve of articles for publication in their respective sub-department of INB. They are also expected to contribute to various INB activities.

Senior writers, veteran journalists of INB, are usually given first pick for articles, being known as reliable and talented writers, as well as being assigned leads deemed too tasking for less-experienced writers. However, they typically do most of their own investigating and reporting. Senior writers are qualified to write articles for all INB mediums and have few, if any, restrictions placed upon them. They are also tasked with mentoring younger journalists.

Correspondents make up the backbone of INB. They are often tasked with working on various aspects of the Iron Will or articles that will be published as holonews. They are usually assigned a topic to work with and are given free reign to research and develop their article in their own way. More often than not, correspondents will be directly working with an editor to provide the material that is being worked on. Correspondents are INB members who have passed the stage that requires direct supervision, but are still directed by editors.

Junior writers are the newest members of INB, having passed a mentorship with a senior writer before officially becoming part of the INB staff. They are stilll supervised and watched over by senior staff members. They are usually given the routine, mundane articles, tasked with gathering information for another writer or collaborating with another writer on lengthy articles.

In addition, all planetary-based news organizations, such as the Bothan News Bureau and the Coruscant News Network, are administratively organized as an extension of INB.

History

The Imperial News Bureau, originally named the Imperial News Service (referred to as INS) when it was established soon after the reorganization of the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire. Experimental newsletters (such as the Soldier's Journal) and holonet broadcasts were instant successes and the INS experienced dynamic growth right from its conception. Shortly afterward, the INS expanded into daily newspapers and broadcasts available first in Imperial-sympathetic territory then galaxy-wide.

After the formation of the Ministry of Truth, the INS was placed under its jurisdiction. The Minister of Truth decided to change the news organization's name to the Imperial News Bureau and its magazine, the Imperial Gazette, to the Iron Will. After the dissolution of the Ministry of Truth, INB became a department of the Coalition for Progress.
